Anyone want to start a coding site ? ( Carmack engines ) | Locked | |

hey all, I was just curious if anyone here is interested in starting up a coding website ? No for crappy half life ( ), but for quake / wolf / doom . I think mainly concentrating on quake 3 / wolf atm, then progressing to doom 3 when it appears. I wouldent mind building a site and handing it over to a team, either --- im not one for content, I just love doing the backend stuff. The site would be pretty much totaly custom, to maintain speed, consistancy, and to keep it solid. I'd write it in php / sql, in which I have good knowledge. -- Not Odd, Just derranged. |

In my opinion, there're too many sites like that already. (Although there aren't any really good ones... PlanetWhatever sites are nice, except for the horrible forum communities and WaitPlanet downloads...) I suggest making a less general web site; maybe ask mod teams if they'd like a site done. Because with big sites you're not simply going to make a site and hand it over to a team, you're going to have to update and keep it running for years --

yah, that would be even better, but I doubt many mod teams out there need websites... do YOU ? -- Not Odd, Just derranged. |

Well, im fine with doing that, as long as the mod isnt some kind of drop out. Anyone need a website ? ( php / sql hosting prefured ) -- Not Odd, Just derranged. |

yes, you should always make sure they have a significint amount about the mod, altho thats hard to do with HL2 mods, since all you can have is concept art and ideas :/ -- Nothing. |

lol - a newell engine is, imo, an engine created by gabe newell - eg : half life, or half life 2. as is a carmack engine : doom, quake, wolf. etc. -- Not Odd, Just derranged. |

I'll "maybe" do a site like that, in fact I had one in the works |

Newell is a networking system, I thought. |

No, Newell licensed Carmack's Quake engine. 40oz, you're thinking of Novell -- < insert subject games here >

half-life is an enhanced version of quake1 engine and half-life2 is based on quake3 engine:P -- |

lol, if you're really desperate for webwork it would be even nicer to have a high-tech website for our OutCast project, rather than pure HTML pages and a stolen lycos forum. There are plenty of sites out there for the Carmack and Novell engines. Yikes, Quake 2 coding sites are out there in their multitudes. Also, Carmack engines run on almost pure C languages, so there ain't much of a problem for coders in that respect. Still, I actually sat there and wrote a tutorial only the other day on our message boards about adding new weapons to Quake 3 (with 'The 75 weapons of OutCast' I couldn't be bothered to do it myself!). Perhaps a new site with a far more detailed or extensive database would be in order? |

There is barly a line of quake 1 code left in half life - valve butcherd that engine, bastards... and half life 2, is built off the half life 1 engine, god, its not built off the quake 3 engine ( unfortunatly ). novell is a networking managment protocall, newell is a fat bastard that butchers half life engines -- Not Odd, Just derranged. |

Don't forget Valve's false claims, like "created from scratch". -- < insert subject games here >
