Hi. I'm an animator that is thinking about working on a mod in the near future. From what little I've read, it seems like the models and rigs used for games are different than some of the free rigs that don't focus on the ability to be ported to games.

I was wondering if anyone knew of some game type models that I could get a hold of and play with to familiarize myself. And maybe playblasts of sample in game cycles that people have done to show what is normally expected from an animator.

Thanks.

There is a couple in XSI mod tool, including the HL2 rig.

Hl2 and their mods are easily hackable if you just want to get the rig and models. All you need is extract the file and import to 3ds max which i have done before. Not sure about maya.

Unfortunately, the only 3D program I have is Maya 8.5.

hm... I REALLY apologize, i 'accidentally' posted a response here. my deepest apologies. ^_^

although i have to say, making a decent rig in maya is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. and as long as you dont go for something SUPER complicated (scripts and millions of little controls) it should work with games no problem (sorry for not answering the question)

What games do you specifically want a rig for?

I have no game in mind. In fact, I'm just wondering in general. I have Maya 8.5 and I know animation. But I'm not much of a modeler.

I want to see what it's like working on game animations, but I really have no idea where to start. From what I've seen, it appears 3D Studio MAX is the way to go.

There you have a perfect example on a rig for games, made for Unreal Tournament 3. Included is a Maya ASCII file, I hope it works for your Maya version as it was created with 2009. If you have any problems with it, send me a note here or use the Email listed in the ReadMe.
