Any storyline writers in the house? Thread

Hey, snow... again

Anyways, People often ask me what the story to Conflict: Middle East is.... But erally I have no reply. I know that any good mod must have a good storyline. But I couldn't write one myself. So I'm looking for someone to write one for us. This is a mod based on Iraq and should revolve around one character, or an elite group of characters. I need a storyline that can be semi-true to the turmiol and it can include more than one group of people as the enemy (there are three groups of people in Iraq not including the USC).

I'd like to include the break down of the enemy forces and resources if possible. But its really open for creativity.

I think what everybody is trying to say is that your probably better off trying to write it yourself because nobody seems to want to help you here.

lol. I know that people flame newbies all the time. But i'm not newbie. Wow. lol. Anyways, show me some real original mods. Just about everything out there is unoriginal. You can't blame a kid for developing a mod, and trying to beat out the competition with a flawless game desgin. That's what there is to it. Tons of modern war games come out each year. They compete, and that's what it's about. I am indeed striving to make a better modern mod than any other. Originality isn't a factor here, becuase thats not what its about.

People who talk about Originality are sometimes being a bit unrealistic. Because *everything* is based on something. Genres don't just apeer from nothing. Rock was based on Jazz. Metal was based off Rock. You see, things progress, and once they are different enough, they become something new. But it is impossible to creat something like a game, that no one else has seen.

I do get where you people are coming from. Sometimes I rag on people about their mods. But I would think that some people would have a little more respect for modders.

Most of all, I mod for fun. Original idea or not, I enjoy doing it. You can't beat that ...

i suggest that you make the story, really give it a try, its a lot better that way cause u know what u want for the mod.

frankly i think you should quit kidding yourself and come out of the closet because your being a wicked flamer alright fella ?

unless your making the mod theres no reason for this post.. and if you are thnat means youy need someone else's idea? the idea is the easiest part.. we all have ideas.. just not time or dedication.. so just stop now..

I am making the mod. And alot of HL2 sites cover us. I'm not asking for someones idea you idiot. I'm asking for someone to write a *story* off of my ideas. And really no "idea" is needed, since the whole "idea" is the Conflict over in Iraq.

btw: Blackhawk Down is NOT an original idea so don't even start with me. Thats already a fricken game.. like three of them. And there are many mods that already cover it.

Thanks for taking that off my chest, I've been dying to say that all this time

But w.r.t. the storyline, I'd suggest picking up some thrillers/spy/action novels and reading them to get some ideas going. The Negotiator by Frederick Forsythe, The Matarese Circle by Robert Ludlum and The Aquitaine Progression by Robert Ludlum are pretty good ones, and other books by Forsythe, Ludlum, Ken Follett, Eric van Lustbader and Jack Higgins are also quite good. Maybe even a history book or two to help with thinking up the ideologies of the different groups in your mod might be of aid to you.

If it were me I would have to say your best bet would be to get on some message boards and look for people that have actually been stationed over in iraq either during this war or the Gulf War. Or just start one just for Gulf War vets and ask them about their experiences.. I also happen to believe that you are better off writing it yourself anyway just get some ideas and write em down. Start simple and flesh it out a piece at a time. Anyway thats my two cents

Ok, here's a storyline for you:

2025: The US is still in Iraq, and the Iraqi's hate it. Loyalists to Saddam have decided to gather up their remaining forces for one final push to oust the US. American bases are plauged with frequent raids as the Iraqis steal more and more equipment. Eventually, when they have what they need, Saddam's followers attack in Blitzkreig fashion, swiping through US outposts, unprepared for the heavy tanks that confront them. Eventually, the Iraqi's recapture their old facilities, and begin to fashion their own tanks and weapons.

Take it and run with it.

Just a suggestion.

Before you start a mod, make the background story, or nothing you do will make an ounce of sense. Asking for storyline writers is almost like asking for somoene else to do the mod for you. Every mod I have ever thought of has a background story, whether it be Technocrat or Block Wars. Try and come up with your own ideas.

Just my opinion.

I couldn't make up ideas for YOUR mod, but if you gave me your ideas, I could compile them into a story... whenever my friends need a well-written speech, they ask for my help

I think we have enough matirial to work on Ronald. But to Dragonmaw: This is a mod based on the conflict in Iraq... theres not much needed to start but hardcore information. Its not like an adventure or anime mod... Its basicly easy enough to develope the full story line as time progresses....As far as coming up with my own ideas, If i had the full ability to write a good story and do all the technic's of it then I would have. But I've actully gotten alot of good help form this thread. I do understand though. I've writen storylines for other types of games... but I came up blank on this one...thanks dudes!

Besides, Robo_Ronald's sotry would probably involve the magical Delewarian Militia coming and blowing everyone up with their l337 lasers they fire from their eyes.

I couldn't do graphics; i suck at computer graphics... but I could be PR! I would also have to do some mapping 'cause I'm the only Delawarian who uses a comp. Haven't used level editors since the late 90s, I think I'll brush up on my skills!
