Put on your armor and bring out your sword -- Age of Empires III to be announced this Friday.

Gamespot.com wrote: RUMOR #5: Microsoft-owned Ensemble Studios is preparing to announce Age of Empires III on Christmas Eve.

Source: The official Ensemble Studios Web site.

The official story: "We have no comment at this time."--Microsoft Spokesperson.

What we heard: Last week a stark, black-and-white splash page popped up on the Ensemble studios site. It read "The wait is almost over...2300 BC - Sargon I Unifies Sumeria." Three days later, it read "The wait is almost over...1200 BC - The Troyan War" in slightly larger letters. As of 4pm PST today, it read "THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER…1096 AD - The First Crusade" in LARGE letters. Seeing how the countdown is going about 1000 years a week, and assuming it will stop with the present day, it should one week from today--Christmas Eve. And since Ensemble Studios only makes two franchises--Age of Mythology and Age of Empires--the lack of deity-speak makes it a pretty safe bet the game they're announcing will be Age of Empires III.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus--looks like real-time strategy fans get a nice Christmas surprise this year.

How did you see an advertisement before it was even announced, and that there's no media anywhere else on the net? Are you sure it was AoE3?

That's why you always make back-ups of your games. I have a relatively small library, so I make sure to make a copy of each of them just in such cases :)

My computer would die... but luckily I am building a gaming computer soon I have all the parts picked out and everything. So yeah hooray for me :D

Your computer would die? Just burn them onto CDs. That's what I meant :S Not make copies of the files and put them back onto the HD. It's not hard to do that.

I'm building a custom computer, too (obviously), so hopefully it'll be able to run AoE3. It sounds like it's going to be great!

Maybe one of you guys can scan this AoE3 image onto here?

oh yeah I guess burning them would work but I know alot of games nowadays have protection to where you cant copy them. :(

--

Dec 19 2004 Anchor

You can copy them. If you have the originals, you won't get in trouble, unless you install both on one computer :S

The CD key would then be fine to use.

no some will not copy at all now is what I was talking about... it just wont copy :P I know Dawn of War is like that :(

Dec 19 2004 Anchor

There are programs out there like dameaon tools (spelling) that get around the protection. You can't just use nero, but there is a way to copy any game.

Dec 19 2004 Anchor

yeah lol my friend has pretty much every popular game out on his computer and I highly doubt if he has bought any of them :P

from what i saw in the advertisement it looks kinda like a mix of the "TOTAL WAR" series in that it looks like you have thousands of men in one group. i think it will go the 40k way and you will produce squadrons instead of single units

hopefully theyll like quadruple the population limit

Dec 20 2004 Anchor

Whoa, that sounds awesome! It's been a while since I played an RTS game. AoE has always been my favorite, especially with the large number of really cool campaigns, so I can't wait to try this one out :)

^^^Where did that come from? O_o :parnaoid:

But yeah, they need the population limet to be higher, and if they went the way of dawn of war an axis&allies, where you build a squad of guys, that would be cool too. (axis&allies just came out, I got it for my brother :D )

I think that Ensemble Studios wants to be the leader, not the follower, so I'm sure they have plenty of new ideas for how to do things. That's what they've done in the best that lead to several rip-offs of AoE 1 and 2, so I can't wait to see what they come up with this iteration of an awesome franchise :)
