We can try remaking Opposing Force.
Nobody does that yet and I really like that game.
We can replace all models, textures and maps with high quality ones without changing them, but we can still add lots of effects like bullet time or fadeout or something nice.
We can make the maps much scarier by doing them darker and adding scary sound FX and ambience.
A while ago I saw a bunch of aliens that were planned and made by Valve, but were not included in the game.
We can include them too.
And I think it could be nice to add some new allys, and make more models of the old ones so that everybody won't look the same.
I also think that it could be cool if NPCs could pick up any gun they want.
For example, it could be nice to see barney with a shotgun
instead of his Glock.
And it'll be cool if scientists will be able to shoot guns. (We can define their shooting skills.)
We can add a co-op game mode where instead of NPCs, your team can be real players.
(Any players has his own skills, like the NPCs. Some players can be medics, or HW guys, or that guy who can melt doors, or just an ordinary soldier.)

How does that sound?
Anybody wants to help?

Opposing Force is a retail expansion to HL that's still sold, you'll have to ask Gearbox first, and I really doubt this mod would release because of that issue. The expansions already put HL to it's stable limits so it would probably be pointless anyhow.

We have the right to publish our MOD as long as we don't use their data in it.
We're going to replace their models, maps and textures, so its legal.

" Works put on the Internet are considered “published” and therefore qualify for copyright protection. A work put on the Internet is not considered public domain simply because it was posted on the Internet and free for anyone to download and copy. You need permission from the site owner to publish any materials, including photographs, music, and artwork from the site.

The best way to enforce Internet copyright is through the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 is designed primarily to limit the liability of Internet service providers for acts of copyright infringement by customers who are using the providers' systems or networks. The DMCA was enacted both to preserve copyright enforcement on the Internet and to provide immunity to service providers from copyright infringement liability for passive, automatic actions in which a service provider's system engages through a technological process initiated by another without the knowledge of the service provider. "

this is about how u can get a copyright for somehting thats published on the net, so if it is copyrightable that means that you will have broken their copyright. And whats up with this remaking things anyway, why dont you just i dunno PLAY THE ORIGINAL? omgz0r bad gfx but if i put in new gfx it will make the game more fun and original!

Oh and i found even better now!

" A copyright owner has several rights to the copyrighted work, including the right to reproduce the work, the right to sell and/or distribute the work, the right to create adaptations of the work, and the right to perform or display the work.

The copyright owner also has the right to transfer the copyright to another owner. For instance, an author may transfer his copyright to a book to the publisher. The copyright owner can either license the copyrighted work for a specified period for a specified medium, or the author can give up all ownership in the copyright and assign it to someone else."

so if the owner reserves the right to create a remake then how can you be allowed?

" Copyrights generally protect works of art, including poetry, movies, video games, DVDs, paints, sculptures, musical works, photographs, or architectural designs, among others.

To qualify for a copyright, the work must be “fixed in a tangible medium of expression.” In other words, the work must exist in some physical form, such as a tape recording, on film, on paper, or even in an email.

Additionally, a copyrighted work must be original, i.e. the author must have created it independent of another work. Furthermore, the work must have a modicum of creativity to qualify as copyrighted – facts, such as a phone book listing, contain no creativity and thus does not qualify for copyright protection (though, the structure or layout of arrangement of a phone book may qualify for copyright protection). "

oh and more :)

I mean you could go ahead and do this....but it seems like much more trouble then its worth...you could put the same amount of effort into an original idea. Even an idea based on opposing force....call it say "Security Guard show down"...that way it isnt just blatently recycled material

A new idea???

How exactly is this a new idea? Remaking Opposing Force is not classed as an idea!

This thread will now die. Being over three months old, I hardly see any reason to bump it.
