I'm actually learning Java as well! So, seeing as your the only person to respond(there are some I put in there I wouldn't mind dropping out) but I starting learning java so that I could code my own. Thanks for the help and if you need any help with the engine just shoot me a pm. Thank you for you support! If you want any music (What I kind of want to make my minor ounce I get of of high school). |

Why won't you take a look at Unity? Seems it meets all your requirements. |

Unity is not free for commercial use |

What's not free about it? I think you have no HDR support in the free version, and I thought it also has no shadows, but I'm not so sure about that. Even UDK is "free", if you don't earn more than 50000$ with your project. And after that it's 25% on the next income, so these 50k would be safe. The practical thing about Unity is that it has none of that package rubbish UDK uses. The way it handles content is really good. But without HDRI and Unity's standard and ugly shaders it won't look fly. If you have money to buy a node based shader system for Unity or have lots of skills the game can still look awesome. However, from how you describe the game it doesn't require "next-gen" looks. Unity might really be for you. And you can try the free version and throw it away if you dislike it --

Unity is free till you hit $100,000 in sales, then you have to buy Pro version which is $1500. |

Until you hit 100,000 USD a year, not 100,000 USD period. You have to be bringing in at least 100,000 dollars every year. You're not forced to buy it the moment you make a total of 100,000 dollars. If your yearly profit is more than 100,000 USD, you can more than afford to purchase Unity Pro. If it takes you 3 years to make a total of 100,000 USD, you don't have to buy Unity Pro. If it takes you 3 months, on the other hand, you do. See the difference? Only the people who can afford to are required to buy a Unity Pro license. That's practically the whole point behind Unity. -- I snark, therefore, I am.
