This Article with cover the different types of planets we've employed into the mod.

Posted by on

This has been a request of the fans for a very long time. I'm now able to give you a list of the types of planets that will be featured in the mod. These planets will also be available to place in GalaxyForge in-case you're not happy with our versions of the Mass Effect universe maps and want to create your own, or just want to create some new funky maps. We may be implementing some traits that will occur with certain planet types that are similar to planet bonuses but this is yet to come and is still available for discussion. Anyway, without further a due, here they are;

  1. Colonisable planets:
  • Greenhouse
  • Ferrus
  • Barren
  • Hydrocarbon
  • Carbon
  • Oceanic
  • Rocky
  • Forest
  • Terran
  • Ice
  • Volcanic
  • Desert
  • Moon/Dwarf planet
  1. Other colonisable planet types
  • Asteroids
  • Abandoned stations
  • Dead asteroid
  • Shattered/fractured planet/moon
  • Pirate base
  1. Non-colonisable planet types
  • Gas giants (includes ice giants)
  • Plasma storms
  • Magnetic clouds
  • Asteroid fields
  • Radiation storm
  • Comet
  • Space junk

There will be a number of specific planet types such as Earth, Venus and Mars etc. However the list of these is not yet complete so I won't give details unless they're 100% going into the mod.The list may change and differ later on down the track so don't count what is written here as 100% fool proof. We are always welcome to great suggestion. Credit goes to Axeldude for many of the planets. We would like to thank him again publicly for lending us his magnificent planets to use in our mod. Remainder of planets come from Ironclad. Hope to see you all Starside, For your destruction is imminent. Prepare for our Arrival!

I still believe you can capture the asteroids if they add them, or the moons.

Correct, remember as well. This may not be the final iteration and incorporation of the planets.

If I remember correctly most of the gas giants in ME had small outposts in orbit for any number of reasons from mining to research. Perhaps something similar could be done here?

I am thinking about keeping them colonisable but very easy to take over so not much bombardment needs to occur but allows for factories and other installations to be placed in orbit around the planet.

Perhaps you could make a "reaper controlled Earth" planet type too.

The question I would like answered is: how can you colonize Shattered Planets? Where are organics supposed to live there?

Its more of a colonial, secret facility type occupation with no actual cities or conectrations of populations.

I hope that you won't be offended if I ask: what is that supposed to mean?

So, what I meant in this regard was localised installations and small populations which can be protected by advanced technology. There will most likely be bonuses and penalties associated with the planet type but that will be fleshed out later on.

Bonus, I suppose, could be an increase in mining percentage (if there will be resource asteroids, of course), and penalty in trading income (who would want to take cargo ships filled with valuable resources through all those debris? Only a nutcase).
