About Tales of Novostrana with 16 comments by CountVlad on May 14th, 2010

The new version of the game can be found in our 'Downloads' section and is about 80MB. We have decided not to make a patch for this version because so much has changed that the patch would have to be quite large anyway.

Character Creation A Short History of Novostrana

In total, this version includes 70 different changes from the previous version of the game. There are far too many to list in this news article, but you can view what has changed by going to the 'Downloads' section and clicking on 'read more +' in the file description.
Here are a few of the major new features that have been added:

  • Over 20 new areas to explore.
  • Two more side-quests to complete.
  • More characters have been added to Willenke Village and all NPCs have had their dialogue options expanded and customised and each NPC has their own daily schedual based on the time of day and even the weather!
  • A new Character Creation system has been implemented, which adds a back-story to your character, but still allows you to customise your starting stats, name, appearance and even your starting equipment.
  • A Visual Equipment system has been added so that your appearance changes based on what equipment you are using.
  • You are now limited in how much you can carry by weight. If you can't carry enough, you can always buy a more heavy-duty bag from a mechant who may appear in Inns from time-to-time.
  • A new economy system has been implemented. Although you can only find traders in Willenke Village at the moment, when more settlements are completed you will find that different settlements have different levels of prosperity that change over time, affecting prices in that town or village.
  • Interiors have been added to all buildings in Willenke.
  • ... and many, many more features and improvements.

To answer the suggestion that my modifications to RPG Maker XP are somehow illegal and that this page should not be on ModDB, at the current time I am convinced that I have not used RPG Maker XP in any way that was not intended by the creator (Enterbrain Inc.). However, I have e-mailed Enterbrain outlining the situation, giving them a link to this page along with a description of the methods used to modify the Engine. I am sure you will agree it is appropriate that they should have the final say on whether my modifications are legal and this page valid.

Well, Enterbrain asked me to contact their publisher instead. I did that several weeks ago now and I haven't got a reply back yet. I think it's safe to assume that if I had done something illegal or something that they disapprove of, they would have contacted me by now.
I'd like to consider this matter closed.

It is illegal to modify the RPG Maker engine and is against the licensing agreement you accepted when you installed RPG Maker XP.

You are aware of this right?

@xilefian Actually if you Read the ToS and User Agreement, you would notice that it does not say that in fact, all games created with rmxp are royalty free and once you pay for it, you are free to modify it any way you want so long as you do not re-distribute your modified version, which is why I suspect they said in the above that they are not giving a copy out, so there is really nothing "illegal" about it, so long as they obtained there version legally and that is really the only Agreement they need to follow when making a game... by the looks you need to read there rules, in fact they actually encourage people to edit it and modify it to learn from it, which is why there rmxp is open source and editable by everyone.

Edit: on another note, nice looking game you got there :P

Yea, but if someone were to download this version without buying the original version, then technically you would violate that contract and the guy who downloaded it would get away with it. However, I'm just making sure of this, you did modify it so that even if they did download it, it wouldn't run without the original version...right?If not, then it's not really a bright idea to put this on sites where people skip the description and download it, same goes for any site actually.

yep, like it's supposed to be. This is practically taking an engine and adding a dash of selfish righteousness to it.
