Description

Expansion Series The Expansion Mod includes new Capitalship known as a Dreadnought. A Dreadnought is a very large and powerful Capitalship that once at level six or beyond can be upgraded into a Super-Dreadnought. All six races have Dreadnought Capitalships. Dreadnought's are automatically and repeatedly built by a special Dreadnought factory ... only one unique factory is made available for each player at the start of the game. Also included are more aggressive Pirates with Capitalships, capable of colonizing, and a pirate carrier cruiser. Finally beware of dangerous asteroids which fill the gravity well of various planets, they can severely damage fleets through collisions.

Ok awesome mod, absolutly no game breaking problems but there is one that nigles at me, not sure if its just my settings but on the Trade Alliance Dreadnought i noticed some texture instabilities on portions around the engines these texture issues were the same on all sides and always in the same general shape. Other then this i have notcied nothing that didnt stop this being so unbelievably awesome.

You are correct. I am aware of the issue.
In a future release I will be updating/replacing the fleets - generation 2. Currently the Replicators and Norlamins fleets are 'place markers'. The TA fleet will be reworked.

Wanted to start off saying this mod is AMAZING. I love it ^.^

Was just curious on the balancing aspect. The new races seemed much more powerful, especially towards the beginning, than the 3 original races. I haven't yet tried this version, but I was just wondering if this was intentional or maybe the version I had was older/out of date. Thanks!

Edit: the mod version I have is release 2, not 3, but I was just curious if it made a difference. Also, is there a way to just use the new planet types, but keep the old races?

Glad you are enjoying the mod.

"The new races seemed much more powerful, especially towards the beginning, than the 3 original races."
Yes, each new release see re-balancing - see latest news for a summary of changes, i.e it is converging to a more equitable balance.

"Also, is there a way to just use the new planet types, but keep the old races?"
No simple way. When I am happy with the planets I might release the "planets only" as a separate mod.

Awesome, thanks for the info!

The dreadnoughts are amazing so far. I will keep you posted as I play this mod more (I only just discovered it a couple weeks ago.)

Norlamins FTW!

Should be able to just choose the 3 original races for the AI when you start a new game.. granted this way you wouldn't be able to use the random selection.

Diplomacy 1.01 had one or more major bugs. Apart from that I have not tested Maelstrom on 1.01.

Problem with Galactica
I have noticed that Galactica capital ship does not fire the beam nor laser..
And the trade alliance does not allow ship upgrades, I have to push the ships to battle in order to reach level 3.

Other than that... AWESOME work.

"I have noticed that Galactica capital ship does not fire the beam nor laser.." thanks I'll look into it.
"And the trade alliance does not allow ship upgrades", this is intentional for the TA capital ships

Try the Expansion first.
In the expansion series (and not in the standard series) ...
1. Some people don't like the expanded pirates (can be a challenge, but you can turn them off)
2. Dangerous asteroids on high value planets can decimate a small fleet, which some people don't like
3. Dreadnoughts are automatically generated - to balance AI and human players

So I have put the more challenging / unusual features in the expansion series.

this mod is the best mod i have played so far? but on my sins of a solar empire diplomacy 1.01 it works for the first load but when i exit game and start another it starts going downhill in functionality, like it loads fine for the first few games loaded then it starts loading weird then it starts not loading at all then i have to exit the game, then i have to relaunch mybee its? for 1.01 only and not 1.011 not sure. though

Hi, I downloaded this mod and it is great. I just noticed a bunch of the capital ships were modeled but didn't have textures. Do I have a bug or are you still working on the textures?

I will rehaul the fleets in a future release.

I just tried playing this version... One of the new planet types caused a crash the moment it was discovered. I can't be sure which one because it happened so quickly, I couldn't even glimpse at the discovered planet. I will... Try to keep an eye out for which planet caused it.
Is it possible this is only for me, or is it more common?

Also... Are the militia fleets supposed to be able to control the dangerous asteroids? Because it's a bit of a problem when trying to get planets early on. The asteroids keep smashing your relatively small fleet.

After... Intensive trial and error... I believe the actual problem is that, as often occurs for me and a few friends while trying mods for Sins, I think Sins goes 'out of memory', or something along those lines.

Sadly, I can't be sure since it locks up, closes out to the pop-up saying "Waiting for Sins of a Solar Empire to respond..."

Yes, Sins is a 32Bit program with a 2GB limit. If you use the recommended graphics settings for Maelstrom you should be OK. This of course depends on background processes and also if you have more than 2GB of RAM.
Also you may like to try the default graphic setting for Sins ... this is a 'safe' mode.

If you are running a 64 bit OS and have 4GB of RAM, or more, I have included a 4GB patch (see zip file that comes with the download).

"Are the militia fleets supposed to be able to control the dangerous asteroids? Because it's a bit of a problem when trying to get planets early on. The asteroids keep smashing your relatively small fleet."

High value planets have the dangerous asteroids which are attracted to your phase engine signatures.

Try the default graphic setting for Sins.
In the Effects Menu of Sins hit reset.
Specifically the default graphic setting for Sins are

* Planet : Detail - Highest
* Ship : Detail - Highest, Extras - High , Bump - Low
* Building : Detail - Highest, Extras - High , Bump - Low
