Year is 817 After Settlement (A.S.), 16 years after the single-player campaign of Freelancer, and one year after Discovery 4.84 took place. A Sirius-wide war is on the brink of engulfing the sector. While Kusari pushes its onslaught against Bretonia deep into the Leeds system, Bretonia attempts to surround Kusari forces in Tau-31. Liberty attacks Rheinland in Bremen and Hudson, and Rheinland has to pull back to defend its own borders. As if this was not enough, in late 817 the Independent Miners Guild encountered a large number unknown ships in the Orkney system. The ships belonged to a rebel group formed within the long-lost House of Gallia, the existence of which remained unknown for centuries; creation of a path into Gallia adds a new, powerful, player to the scene. Rumors arise that the nation of France was betrayed during the Exodus, making historians and politicians of various Houses search deep into archives to find out what truly happened more than 1000 years ago in Sol.

Before you start:
- Discovery updater is now integrated with Freelancer.exe file. Do not use DSUpdate.exe to launch the game, use Freelancer.exe instead. For online play, your firewall needs to be configured to allow Freelancer.exe to access serverside updater files.
- Using custom shortcuts, Global Server Workaround and other ways to connect to servers is no longer necessary. All Discovery server addresses are stored in dsupdate.cfg file found in Freelancer\EXE folder. You can easily add new servers to this file.
- FLMM is unable to remove ENB Bloom mod during de-activation if it was enabled. You will have to remove d3d8.dll from the Freelancer/EXE folder manually. By default, ENB option is disabled; please do not enable it if you are not sure what you are doing.
- It is not recommended to install any other mods or patches prior to and after Discovery activation. 1.1 official patch is included into the mod.
- If Discovery won't activate properly in FLMM, your Freelancer installation is most probably corrupt. Reinstall Freelancer, and FLMM, if necessary.
- Open SP is now always enabled, Campaign SP has been removed for compatibility reasons. Attempts to load campaign save files will result in errors.
- Setting up serverside mod options works only if you run the server. If you do not, these options will have no effect; please leave them default.
- Do not forget to transfer internal equipment (ID and scanner) each time when you buy a new ship.
- ID items present in Discovery act as tractor beams. Civilian IDs are available for purchase from every base (500 credits).
- If your large ship gets stuck while undocking from certain space stations, try moving backward and strafing, use thruster, or log off and on again.
- If you are automatically kicked from multiplayer servers, check your ship loadout for equipment that's no longe mountable on this ship.
- Make sure your cruise speed never exceeds 350 (Discovery limit). If it does, reinstall the mod.
- Refer to Readme.txt file if you need help and more information. Read server rules if you play on multiplayer servers. And, last but not least, enjoy the game!

Finaly, i have been waiting for version 4.85 for a long time...
hey guys? im not sure if its my pcs fault but ver 4.85 keeps crashing by me when i choose single or multiplayer
You need to check your installation. No one else reported such problems.
would it have something to do with the effect Mod that was included?
yep was the mod, i deactivated it and now discovery ver 4.85 works without any problems ^^
That's why we are not recommending to activate the ENB thing if you aren't sure if it will work on your system. Will update download description shortly.
Since I'm not really up on this mod stuff, I don't understand HOW to install this mod. I love the game and would like to try something new. Can anyone give me some detailed instructions on how to do this? I already have the FLMM thing that manages mods for this game. It took four days to download this mod from a crappy connection in Afghanistan, so any help from some of you guru guys would really be appreciated.
what version of mod manager should i use for 4.85?
Not True.
I've been having a similar problem as Chaosmaster4, however when I downloaded the 485 Mod, I only got a zip file and not a .zip.flmod file and so I manually uncompressed and copied the mod to FLMM mods folder and activated and each time I attempted to run FL 4.85 I encountered an Access Violation 0xc0000005.
This happened on two platforms (different download sessions) Win XP SP3 and Vista SP1 (both x86).
I'm attempting to download the file again from another location
OK, I figured it out. My Bad.
I didn't realize that 485 Update 3 was only a patch. I thought it was the Base Plus Patch #3.
Solution:
Be sure to download Discovery 485 Base code (Discovery485.zip.flmod)
Example - Download from: (to be added after 7 days)
[Windows XP]
- To install (double-click)the Discovery485.zip.flmod file which will extract the zip file to the mods folder of FLMM directory.
[Windows Vista]
- Download and Rename the Discovery485.zip.flmod file to "Discovery485.zip" and extract the files to a desired location.
- Create a folder named "Discovery485"
- Copy all of the recently extracted files from Discovery485.zip to the newly created Discovery485 folder.
- Copy the Discovery485 folder to the FLMM mods folder.
Example: C:\Program Files\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods
Note: The mods folder should now contain the folder "Discovery485" (along with other mod folders)
[Activating the Discovery v4.85 Mod]
- Run the FLMM application and Activate the "Discovery Mod v4.85"
- When complete (and successful), Run FL from the Start Menu.
[Update to Discovery 4.85 (Patch) 3]
- After Running FL from the Start Meny, when prompted if you want to download and install the Update 3 patch, select Yes to complete the update process.
[Play Freelancer]
- Run FL (again) from the Start Menu and Play the game as normal.
hi i just dl the freelancer and my version is 1.0 and how to play the multyplayer???what need to download ???
Anybody is chinese? I need some suggest.
is sum ting wong..?
what is this d3d9.dll i found in my fl exe folder..?
File appears if you chose to enable ENBSeries mod during Discovery activation. Remove it if you want ENBSeries (bloom effects) to be gone.
So i have fully installed the .85 update ion my game with the discovery mod manager without any problem at all and im usaly all defualt settings, yet and i cant seem to get it to play. I first get a loading scrreen (DISCOVERY MOD REQUIEM with the gallic house sign in the back)then it minimizes and a "do you wish to send microsoft a error report" page comes up and the game closes. Any ideas of where i went wrong
Try to remove ENBSeries mod if you enabled it (remove d3d8.dll from Freelancer\EXE folder).
Otherwise, the installation may be corrupt, FLMM is far from ideal on this regard.
I have disabled the ENB thing and it's removed from the Freelancer folder but still wen I start the game it minimizes and says ''Freelancer-Server has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'' Any one here that could help-out please?
Ah brilliant, a new major modification, its been a while since ive played freelancer on v4.84 but this has inspired me to play it again, its nice to see such large sized mods are still being created for this game, congratz discovery team, I look forward to trying this out.
Hi guys. I'm excited at this as I just re-installed my Freelancer on my new and upgraded system.
Question: Has anyone tried running this mod on the WIN 7 RC yet?
MB=Asus M3N78-VM, CPU=AMD Anthlon X2 7850 Black @2.8ghz, RAM= 2GB PC6400, VIDEO=RADEON HD 4870 512MB GDDR5, PSU= LPS750 750WATT.
yup, although i couldnt get it to work with flmm. something about not being able to extract discovery.dll cos access was denied, and the file being corrupt. but after several attempts, i just extracted the files, and copied them into my freelancer directory. the only bad thing is that i had to start in the new york system, as a level 1, and no credits. but all factions start off neutral :D
I am thinking, is it possible to create a floating market price system in Freelancer's MODs.
For example, if I keep selling Gold on Mannhaten, the Gold price on Mannhaten will decrease, if I stop for some time, 1 hour for example, it will increase again.
Doing this should greatly increase the playability of this game, right? No more fixed trading ways, merchant need to think like a merchant~
Would not work too well, since you cannot create contracts in this game that will guarantee a pre-determined price. If you did that, merchants would have no reliable way to make money, they'd be spending all their time hopping about to different systems looking for a decent selling/buying price.
every time I attempt to install it, it says access to the DLLS\BINS\content.dll was denied, then that it was unable to extract a file from the archive, possibly corrupt. I have downloaded it 5 times..any suggestions?
Your FL installation is corrupt, it's better to re-install the game completely.
As I install 4.85, before finishing up pops a box wich says
(Access to C:\Program Files\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods\Discovery485\DLLS|BIN\content.dll Was Denied.)
Then second window says
(Error: unable to extract a file from mod archive 'Discovery485' File possibly corrupt.)
I close the box and open Flmm 1.4, the mod is listed and will activate, as I start the game I see the Discovery Reunion 4.85 screen then the menu and as I start a new game It crashes telling me win is looking for a solution.
Try to re-download the mod, and don't use FLMM 1.4. We explicitly tell everywhere that previous FLMM version (1.3) must be used instead.
I have the same exact problem...tried both 1.3 and 1.4 FLMM...any suggestions?
I'm running Vista Ultimate with sp1 , amd kuma 7750 black box and radeon epci ( mid range video) 2 gig ram, I cam accross the content.dll denied problem like some of you...my fix was to run FLMM 1.3 as admin(right click desktop icon, run as admin)..then right click discovery mod and extract or run(cant remember) with FLMM...it will install without a problem, I tried double click but had the same result of content.dll denied...I believe D-boys coment about how to run with vista put me on right track but had to modify his last part of instruction to make it work...hope this helps...I just joined the community had been a long time fan of freelancer and the WC universe...guess my age is showing..oh well snow on the roof but can still dogfight with the wuppersnappers lol
have you had any look with this? im having the same probs my self
I have the same problem like "mindaru". If I try to unzip the mod => "Access to C:\Program Files\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods\Discovery485\DLLS|BIN\content.dll Was Denied." and
"Error: unable to extract a file from mod archive 'Discovery485' File possibly corrupt." I use FLMM 1.31 and re-installed the game and the Modmanager more then one time. If I ignore this and start Freelancer I cant join the server. The version number "4.85" is red. (vista)
I know how to fix that, I had the same problem. Just right click FLMM and select run as administrator, then unzip the mod. It should work fine.
I have that same problem too, but when I ran as administrator, the same thing happened anyway.
great game i have been waiting a mod like this
ily god
hey guys im having a big problem with the game atm
all installed fine but when i open the game and try to connect to one of their available servers it says that i am not able to connect and that it can be caused by servers recently going offline
they show that ppl r connected to them already can anyone help me?
I have the same problem.
edit: wrong reply
my computer is crashing the game will not load it crashes first
Exactly the same on my computer..
It says "410-Gone" every time I try to download.
Any Reason?
.
