6 menu background maps based on concept art from Raising the Bar.
Half-Life 2 Menu Background Concept Pack
========================================
A pack of 6 maps I put together based
on old Half-Life 2 concept art found in
"Raising the Bar".
Install it by dropping the folder,
"cvoxalury_concept_maps", in
Steam\Steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\custom.
The maps will show in the main menu
either based on the current chapter you're
playing, or if you finished the game,
it'll randomly choose a map.
Or you can load them separately from the
console, of course.
The concepts I chose are (unofficial names):
- Night train to C17 (Dhabih Eng, RTB p. 172)
- Yellow Canal (Dhabih Eng, RTB p. 203)
- Wasteland Railroad (Viktor Antonov, RTB p. 175)
- Prisoner Pods (Viktor Antonov, RTB p. 225)
- Airex Cooling Tower (Viktor Antonov, RTB p. 174)
- Citadel Gates (Dhabih Eng, RTB UP p. 248)
Because building entire contained maps
based on only a single view angle is a
big challenge, and inevitably will mean
guesswork and interpretation, I instead
opted to produce background maps - the
kind that has fixed camera angle and can
thus be just like the original art.
Anyone who is willing to do extra work,
turn concepts into whole maps, is welcome
to make use of this pack.
Study it, turn it into prefabs, whatever
you want. The VMFs are provided.
Credit for custom textures (prisoner pod
model + various assets reused from
Dark Interval) belongs to A. Shift.
If you include any content from the pack
in your projects, please just credit us.
Mention where it's from. That's all
you need to do under Creative Commons.
If you want to try and "play" the maps,
load them through the console, then
use "ent_fire point_viewcontrol disable"
to untie yourself from the camera, and
"ent_fire env_zoom unzoom" to unlock FOV.
Hope you like it,
- Cvoxalury
Masterpiece as always! Very atmospheric.
It would be great to see more backgrounds like this.
Yes, very cool, especially the air exchanger impressed!
Any chance of an SFM port? I'd love to use this in a upcoming video I've been working on, so many ideas!
Пожалуй, именно так я представлял себе "ту самую" атмосферу концептов. Моё почтение за такой качественный набор задников!

I'm having a hard time opening the maps in Hammer++, when I open the VMF file the map has missing textures and models, anyone knows why?
