Secrets in NETRICSA

Intro: This is a tutorial on how to make secrets appear in NETRICSA. This tutorial is made for people who have already made the secret but can’t get it to appear in NETRICSA.

Time to go to work:
First off, you need either a touchfield and/or a trigger set up. For example, if you have a breakable wall that when you break you want it to count it as a secret, then you want just a trigger (besides a damager and soundholder). If you have, say secret armor hidden behind a block or under stairs, you need a trigger and a touchfield.

1.For a breakable wall:

  • First set up the properties of the damager, soundholder, and trigger (and of course, the wall/block/etc…).
  • Under the trigger’s property, put a message in that you want to appear in the game when the trigger gets activated. Something like “Secret path has been discovered!” or “Secret items have been found!” I believe the message needs to have the word “secret” in it, but I’m not sure.
  • Set the message time to however many seconds you want the message to appear.
  • Then change the message sound from none to info (the sound you hear in the game).
  • Set the score to however many points you want the player to receive when they activate the secret (in the game, the point value is 10,000).
  • When you activate the trigger, a secret should appear in NETRICSA, but the total # of secrets will still be zero (Secrets: 1/0)
  • You change this simply by adding a music holder to the level and setting the music. The same works for kills also.

1.For a touchfield:

  • You need to set up a trigger and a touchfield.
  • Drag a touchfield in the place where you want the message and secret to appear.
  • Add a solid conus primitive to the touchfield the size you want the touchfield to be. The primitive will turn green if not in full perspective view (#6 on the numpad).
  • Drag a trigger near the touchfield.
  • Set the max trigs to 1. This says that even if you go through the touchfield more than once, the message and points will only appear the first time you walk through the touchfield.
  • Under the touchfield’s property: set the enter target to the trigger.
  • Then add a musicholder into the level if you haven’t already.

For those of you wondering how the heck I figured out how to make secrets appear in NETRICSA, I didn’t. I e-mailed the person that wrote all of the music and sounds and helped design the levels in both Serious Sam games. Here is his reply:

“Hmmm.... believe it or not but I think if you put a musicholder in your world, the things should work...”

-I hope that you found this tutorial easy to use and it helped you

Hey dude. I am glad to have stumbled upon your tutorial, it's very good. However I have an important question. Is it possible to fix the broken secret in the level Valley of the Jaguar of Serious Sam: The Second Encounter using the level editor? Please help me out, that broken secret has been bugging me for years! PS: Thanks in advance, however if you don't know how to do it yourself then go around to find and ask someone who does, and then reply to this comment with the answer to this problem, good luck and best of wishes dude.

Yes it would be possible by just editing the level
