Post tutorial RSS If your AV detects CF as a virus.

Its a common issue amongst the Crossfire players about some Anti-Virus programs recognizing CF install as a potential threat. Be assured, the mod is 100% safe and SWAT Development team is working hard to fix this issue. In the meantime, here is a simple procedure that could help those who have conflicts with CF with and their anti-virus program. -- POSTED BY HELLRAISER on the SWAT FORUM.

Q:WHAT THE HECK?!!!CROSSFIRE IS A VIRUS?
A:Certainly not m8.Crossfire has a a built-in anti cheat which sends off a false heuristic signature which your AV does not recognize.
So it just tags it as a virus.
Well now to nullify this problem, follow these simple steps(using a download manager is recommended):
Note:All the exceptions are to be made in the Auto-protect exclusions column and the scan exclusions column(if it exists) .
Before starting the download:

  • Disable the heuristic protection.
  • Create an exception of the folder you are going to download the mod in.
  • Also create an exception in the Freelancer Mod Manager folder in Program Files.
  • Wait for the download to complete.

After download finishes:

  • Create an exception of the setup file of the mod(CFsetup_181.exe).
  • Optional:remove the exception of the folder u downloaded the mod in.
  • Install the mod.

After installation:

  • Quickly create an exception of the Freelancer folder in the Microsoft Games folder in Program Files.
  • Be sure to create an exception of Freelancer.exe file also.

Well you are good to go. :D
Cya in space m8.

What do you mean its 100% true if it detects a virus ???

CF has NO virus. Its merely a problem of how the installer works that triggers the AV to panic. There is no dangerous file such as a virus, a trojan, spyware or anything else either in the installer itself or the content it extracts on your hard drive. As i said in the summary of this tutorial, the SWAT Development team is working hard to correct the issue and make the installer a little different so it doesn't trigger false alerts in anti-virus programs.

Crossfire is 100% SAFE. Period.
