Post tutorial Report RSS How install Alliance mod 2.3X if you have issues

For any who are having issues on installing the Alliance mod 2.3X: Download the file, you will get an .exe installer app Run the .exe and and it will give you choice of what location you wish to install the file Install the file to the desktop, this will create a folder (probably called mods) on your desktop, that as a folder called Alliance2.3X inside of it.

Posted by on - Basic Installers

Open the folder, and then open a new explorer window and go to your C Drive/program files/lucas arts/foc

Manually go through the Alliance2.3X sub folders and copy and paste the individual files to the proper matching locations of the c/program files/lucas arts/foc folder locations - for this type of installation it is recommended that you back up your original FOC folder by just making a copy of it and renaming it.

After you copy all of the files from Alliance2.3X foder on your desktop to the matching appropriate locations of the c/program files/lucas arts/foc folder, the game will be fully installed, and you can launch Alliance Mod by normally starting up Forces of Corruption from the desktop short cut (you do not need to alter the shrotcut path or anythying). Remember that when you are copying the files over to the FOC folder, you are NOT copying them to the mods folder located in FOC, but the the main FOC directory sub folders.

This method allows you to only play Alliance Mod, and does not permit you the choice of playing other mods. I use this method of installation myself because I run Window 7 and the SMG mod launcher does not work with Win7.

If you wish to play original FOC game, or other mods, simply change the name of the FOC folder located in C/program files/lucas arts/FOC to something like "FOC_modded", and then place your copied back up of the original FOC folder back in the lucas arts folder. Whenever you wish to go back and play Alliance mod, simply remove the original FOC (the backup) to wherever you keep it for storage/later use, and change the name of "FOC_modded" folder back to just "FOC" by deleting whaterver extra text you used to change the name.

This process takes a few extra steps and might not be the quickest, but is really very very easy, and I have been playing Alliance mod for past 4 years like this, without any problems, game runs perfectly.

Hope this helps, and really, after playing Alliance mod, you may not really ever want to change back to any other mods wink

ok nomada that must be everyones problem. i see now you want us to install it over the main FOC files and not in the mod sub folder... but i dont like to do that cause ive done it a few times and i Had made a copy of all the original files but it still messed up when i put everything back into its place. i have it installed to the mods folder and not over the original FOC files. i might do that tho cause i really dont play the original game lol. so if that works with NO probs at all i will do it. ill wait for some feedback from ppl. thanx nomada

I really don't understand why people need to do this. Your mod works fine from a bat file. Always has. I see no reason why people have to replace the FOC folder with a modded version of FOC, this is how we did things in the old days before we got mod folders with the map editors.

Bat file's should work fine. If it doesn't load the mod then you did some thing wrong your end. I have never used mod launchers, and I have never had to play any mod by this method.

umm, actually, no the bat file does nothing when u click on it. It does nothing whether you try to activate it from within the foc folder that the exe file sets up 2.3 or if you search for the bat file using windows explorer.

now here's a question... what is so damn difficult to include a "shortcut icon"? lots of other modders include them with their mods. Hell, game makers have included them for years!!! Including a shortcut seems to be the only way to bypass this problem with the recent xp upgrades from the idiots at microsoft. Oh and the other mods i was talking about are ROtM and Legacy mods cause they had shortcuts included. The GOC and Alderaans Rebirth mods bat files do not start up the mods from where the bat files are installed either.

Oh and I'm not complaining at Nomada. I thoroughly enjoyed his 2.3 mod when it did work for me when it was first launched, but it has since stopped working and i believe that is caused by the xp updates from Microsoft.

SO any advice as to how to get the mod to work would be appreciated and I'm not going to do all that insane extra step crap.

It's only been since windows 7 came out that we have been having this problem with the smg laucher not running mods anymore.

ummm, while doing a different AV check I found a massive malware infection in my system. it caused both SWEAW and FOC to grow HUGH. sweaw grew to 3.5 76MB and foc grew to 704? MB, where the games should be 2076MB and 1484 MB respectively.
Removed the infection.
Now all mods work correctly once again and there are no rotten exception errors.

For the others who are having massive problems with this and other mods... try this:

Go to the Sophos site and download the free "Sophos Threat Detection Test" anti virus setup. it will put a small version of their AV software on your system and it will not mess with ur regular AV.. well it doesn't mess with Eset stuff. That is what i used to find my problem. It might be the cause of others' problems with this mod too.

Hope this works for someone else to play this great mod :)

Hm, I can't make it work even with this tutorial. All other mods run without problems, but this one breaks down in the "Loading" screen. I reinstalled, redownloaded and still it fails to start up.

I have no idea what to do now...maybe borrow my buddies laptop or something...

Hi, i've been playing the 'lost planets' GC game, or rather trying to because i've been getting a bunch of CTD's (exception error crashes). I'm gonna uninstall all of my mods and FOC and EAW and reinstall everything, hopefully that will fix the crashing problem. I had no problems playing 2.3 when it first came out, but ever since i installed it on my new 3.4 AMD computer, i get these irritating CTD's :)

If anyone has any other suggestions that would be nice.
Thanks again for an awesome mod Nomada :)

When I click Run, my computer doesn't give me a place to install it. It does nothing. Any suggestions of why it does this and a way to fix it would be much appreciated. Thanks and the mod looks AMAZING

here is a great solution... make and include a 'shortcut icon' like most others do with their mods. This is the simplest way to solve this. Although it's only simple from the viewpoint of the player and not the modder. And make the shortcut show up on the desktop. that is where they should be placed... no where else. That, afterall, is what the desktop is for.

It appears that this mod doesn't work on a 64-bit computer with over 2-GB RAM. EAW:FOC had the same problem but could be fixed by a patch. Is it possible to fix the mod too? I would very much like to play this excellent mod on my new Win-7 PC!

Well I play through steam and yes I know the location of the exe, but when I try to change settings of this mods .bat file to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\star wars empire at war\corruption\AllianceL2.41"
It doesn't find it. WTF?

Nevermind anymore got it solved.
Everybody who uses steam follow these steps
Install the mod to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\star wars empire at war\corruption"

Then take the AllianceL2.41.bat from the modfolder and put it into the same folder with the FOC.exe

Then go to steam and go to properties section in Star wars empire at war: Forces of corruption or the Star wars empire at war gold edition.

Click "set launch options"

Type this "MODPATH=Mods\AllianceL2.42"

Kaboom it works!

Or instead of all that, you could, y'know, move the BAT file out of the mod folder and into the install directory.
