April 7: Quake Combat+ Fix (Download: Zircon Beta #47 - Win64/Linux)

Zircon Beta Release #47 fixes a crash issue reported by Hebi_Hayaki (Thanks!).

quakecombatplus47

Quake Combat+ and Quake 1.5 autosave very early on map load before it is possible to render and Zircon was attempting to access rendering data that was not update-to-date. Some ways of starting up Quake Combat+ and some settings did not trigger this issue so was not previously caught during testing.

April 7: 🐛🐛 Fix For QuakeCombatPlus Incoming

Release #47 coming soon handling issue with QuakeCombatPlus startup (Quake 1.5 also affected). Quake 1.5 and QuakeCombatPlus both perform an autosave very early on the start up for a map. In fact, it is before all the models are precached and Zircon Beta is trying to access some of that data before it is refreshed for the new map (stale data, it may or may not crash depending on circumstance).

April 7: 🐛🐛 Release #46 Issue With QuakeCombatPlus Use #45

Hebi_Hayaki reported a bug with QuakeCombatPlus startup. After several experiments, I was able to get QuakeCombatPlus to not start up correctly and it would crash out.

Please use Release #45 or earlier until the nature of this issue is determined and fixed.

April 6: Quake Buttons/Q3 Map (Download: Zircon Beta #46 - Win64/Linux)

In Zircon, Quake 3 maps can now use "framemap" keyword to make buttons like Quake 1 buttons where the texture changes when you press it. (🔻 SCROLL DOWN: SEE WORLD'S UGLIEST BUTTON 🔻 in Q3 map test).

Quakespasm appearance option in the Options menu (gl_overbright_models 1) -- was defaulting on, the intended default setting is off and that has been corrected. Some Linux subtle adjustments, acquired some DarkPlaces Beta bug fixes. See read me.

April 4: Load Menu Sortable (Download: Zircon Beta #45 - Win64/Linux)

Improvements to Load Game Menu, Maps Menu (click Help and Ordering), and server list. Addressed a cursor issue in options menu that could occur with certain resolutions (was not a bug, but cosmetic).

Video/Audio Playback For Video Cutscenes

Zircon now supports a few different methods for video cutscenes including animated GIF and a jpeg stream and audio support.

It also has an easy-to-find menu option to look more like Quakespasm derived engines (overbright models in Options).

Zircon Now Embeds Screenshots In Savegames For Use In Mouse Driven Loadgame Menumnu

The Linux version has been upgraded and improved in Release #44 including even small touches like the titlebar icon.

This is the beginning of an on-going process to terraform the user-interface and general experience when using Zircon, but do it in a very subtle manner.

Heavy, heavy changes are coming! Nice and subtle heavy changes that keep the engine feeling Classic Quake, but to make it more fun, graphical and easier to install playable content.

Going to be an exciting and action packed time! 😎
