A short update on the progress of 0.7, and on the plans for A Clash of Kings 0.8

Posted by on

Currently finishing off the troop trees, after which I will have to play 0.7 for a bit, to test if everything is right and fix any eventual minor bugs. Should not be long, I do not yet know the release date, but A Clash of Kings 0.7 will be released in january.

Here's a list of all the new features:

Tournaments have been fixed.
All of the troops have been redone.
All of the items have been redone.
Many new items have been added, courtesy of Kuauik.
More than 25 new iconic scenes, like King's Landing, Winterfell and Casterly Rock.
New textures for the buildings, ground, plants and so on.
A new invading faction, House Targaryen.
Many new minor factions.

New features included in 0.8 will be:

Dialogue fixes
New scenes

After which I'll start work on the new and improved world map.

Sadly no, you'll have to start over.

Awesome! I just started playing the mod yesterday, sunk about eight hours in over the course of the day - it's very addictive. For the record, a few things that I've noticed that you may have already fixed or may just be on my end, but seem to be worth mentioning:
- I aligned myself with the North and Robb Stark, and then won the war against the Westerlands for him, but no matter how much time passed he refused to allocate any newly gained holdfasts or cities to any lords; they just sat there, empty, for a month or so before I declared war on him and slaughtered the entire North
- Several holdfasts, when raided, have very bugged out maps; castles floating a hundred feet in the air or buried underground (the only two examples I can think of off the top of my head are Casterly Rock and Castamere), forcing you to use cheats to kill the enemy team because neither you nor your men can reach them

I think that's about it, really. Keep up the good work! One of my favorite M&B mods, easily.

Will it be stand alone or will require 0.6 ?

Yeah, I'd love to see 0.7 in the next week or so - I'm moving out of town pretty soon and I doubt my laptop will be able to run the mod. At least not in full, awesome capacity.

Oh, just an afterthought - you may have already planned to implement this over time, or you may be working on it for .7 or .8, but it would be very cool to have some plot twists that take place in the novel occur in the mod, should you let the world go by undisturbed. The Red Wedding, the deaths of certain characters, etc. - I'm sure you know who I mean, though I won't go into detail, in case anybody hasn't finished the novels or only watches the TV show (you're missing out, if that's you).

I also wouldn't mind some extra NPCs - say, Joffrey, with the Kingsguard retinue attached to his party. Presumably he would be forced to idle at King's Landing 24/7, but it'd still be neat. Other major players like Tyrion, Varys, Petyr, etc. would also be cool - characters who don't have their own war party, but instead idle at pre-determined locations and can be used for various diplomacy actions. Jamie Lannister would also be traveling about with his own retinue of Lannister men at this point in the war.

Another thought: it would be neat to have an option to send your own troops to the Wall to win a small amount of favor from the other houses, as a lord.

You have a lot of nice ideas, but remember the modders and the game itself have their limits...

This is true, but from what I know, most of the things I've suggested are doable. Granted I'm certainly not a modder, but I've seen somewhat similar features as I've mentioned in other mods. :D

yeah... I was hoping this was already the case with 0.6. I have hatched plan to elope with Jaene Westerling in order to prevent the red wedding. Looks like all those tournament dedications were in vain.

Who is the leader of House Targaryen and how long do you have to wait for House Targaryen to invade?
