Ered Mithrin

Greetings, Companions of Edain!

The works on Patch 4.2 to present you the elven realm of Lothlorien are going full steam ahead. But our goal is to not only integrate a new faction into the demo but to also incorporate a wide range of bug-fixes, improve several concepts and of course invoke changes to the balance of the gameplay. Recently the supporting-faction of the Iron Hills has been a big theme in the english community. Up until now this role was filled by Lake-town, being the same supporting-faction as for Ered Luin. But as opposed to Ered Luin, it didn't really fit in thematically with the Iron Hills, mainly because the Iron Hills never really had any connections with Lake-town. Although they fought side by side in the battle of the five armies they neither had any kind of trade connections nor had anything else to do with each other in any way.
Thus we decided to tackle this issue in the meantime and developed a new concept based on the ideas of our community.

ERED MITHRIN

The dwarfs of the Ered Mithrin will be the new supporting-fraction of the Iron Hills and be available as an option besides the normal outpost on the outpost building spots. After the dwarfs fought their battles against the local dragons over the years, the erstwhile dwarf realm of the Grey Mountains is only sparsely populated at the time of the War of the Ring and the Hobbit. Because of that we tried to incorporate this matter in our concept. This proved to be somewhat difficult because a lot of facets are already covered by the faction of the dwarfs. Nevertheless we are quite satisfied with the result.

The dwarfs of the Grey Mountains are hard-nosed veterans that have been fully trained in the battle against monsters, dragons and beasts. They provide a bastion as building that can be improved with different upgrades:
- Additional hall of warriors: Raises the recruitment speed by 50%
- Dragon trophy: Lowers the damage of monster in a wide radius by 50% and grants nearby dwarfs +30% damage. The damage bonus will stay 45 seconds after they left the effect radius.
- Defenders of the borders: Mans the bastion with hunters. Additionally grants +30% armor to the summoned tunnels, lonely towers and the summoned citadel.
- Mighty catapult: Arms the bastion with a big catapult that is able to fire over the whole map

start 1444123144halls 1444123154troph 1444123206grenzen 1444123302katapult 1444123216katapult2 1444123228end 1444123482

The following units may be built in the bastion:

Zealots (melee unit)

zel 1444120260

Ability: Defiance of the monsterslayers - For 30 seconds the Zelot gai +75% armor vs. fire, magic, ice and poison and can't be knocked down anymore.

Hunters (ranged unit)

hunter 1444120959

Ability: Nail down - The hunters throw a salvo of spears that paralyzes an enemy squad or a monster for 15 seconds. Not usable on heroes.

Dragonslayer (single unit)

slayer 1444120252

Ability: Switch weapon - Switches between morning star (area damage) and sword (high individual damage)

We decided on purple as the colouring scheme for the dwarfs of Ered Mithrin, so that it's a clearly different colour hue in comparison to the other dwarf realms thus providing a clear distinction, moreover it can easily be associated with the overall red hue of the Iron Hills designs.
The pikes of the Hunters and the morning star of the Dragonslayers allowed us to use more design patterns from the Hobbit-movies. However, the basic design of the armour elements is oriented towards our former Veterans-design from prior versions.
We found it quite interesting to not provide a hero for the dwarfs of the Grey Mountains but to instead give them a big catapult that destroys enemies and monster from a distance and thus secures the borders. Each dwarf of the Ered Mithrin is a veteran, thus not needing a figure of inspiration.

At least we are pleased to announce that we are cooperating with the Youtuber RuudDevil who is a big fan of the Edain Mod. He has already created a large number of videos with older versions of Edain and the Demo 4.0. Our work on the patch 4.2 is progressing well, so here has been a good way for us to offer you some insights into the mechanisms of the new faction Lothlorien in a long test video. Lothlorien is still in beta stadium, so it may happen that 1-2 shown systems are not work the way we imagine.

If you liked the video, then simply subscribe RuudDevils Channel. Likewise, we always welcome new subscribers to our official Edain-Channel.

We hope that you enjoyed the update and look forward to your feedback!

Great idea about the Ered Mithrin Dwarves, I always wanted to see something of the Grey Mountains' Dwarven realm implemented in a mod, and I must say I really like both the warriors and the buildings you made :)

Dont forget that the basic ideas around the dwarves of the grey mountains were created by our community. Thanks to everyone who were involved:

Well, I'm glad that article was created, because it gave the amazing idea of including another Dwarven realm! And not just some small realms, but the Grey Mountains itself! :)
I wonder, would the Orocarni Dwarves look like the Grey Mountains ones ;)

Love you guys !!! Amazing concepts. Watched yesterday RuudDevils Video of Lothlorien and I would suggest to make also an "Border outpost" for them other than Mirkwood, use the old Lothlorien Towers as base, with some upgrades, 3 buildplots and also allow Marchwardens, or Caras Galadhon Elven Archers to be built from there. I liked the old Galadrim swordsman unit. Also will you make a visual change for the Helm's Deep Galadhrim to be with and without hoods, either by stance change or upgrade. Thanks

There can't be another outpost with buildplots. It's not possible to add multiple different outposts with buildplots for the same faction. But we're currently discussing about an alternative lorien building. :)

That's good news, because I personnaly thought while watching RuudDevil that building two Mirkwood outposts would be weird.

I think you missunderstood me - of course you can build multiple outposts. What I mean is that you can't add multiple different outposts with buildplots to the same faction.

Well since the demo factions have a normal outpost and a special building its kind of unfair, but at least a border tower that may be upgraded and recruit units would be good. Also I hope that you consider my suggestion to keep the 3.8.1 units

First of all, great work Edain team!!! As always you did not disappoint. :) ... I love the idea for Dwarves, since I didn't like Lake Town for both Ered Luin and Iron hills. You did well, especially because I thought you have finished with the dwarven faction. Love the concept of dragon slayers, because the Goblins are ancient enemy of the dwarves, and there must be corelation for those two factions, since Goblins are those where dragon predators and giants will be, monsters first of all. So, great job! Second, I would like to answer the H4lbarad's question about Goblin outposts. If you read carefully the goblin concept, you would know that goblins have 2 outposts (Giant mound, and Dragon lair). Gundabad and Goblin town , as well as the Moria camps, will be able for building anywhere on the map, because the main idea is full potential of goblin fast and deadly horde, which is massive. Therfore, settlements contain classic bfme2 lairs. Personally I love Goblins the most, and consider their concept brilliant, as well as Mordor's, you nailed it guys, well done! :D ... I watched the Elves, and the main reason I can't wait to have them in game is to crush them, over and over again. But watching RuudDevils video made me thinking. And because of your great work on them, I can't wait to also play with them. Concerning the Dwarves... Please, I beg of you, put only Dain II from Iron Hills to be also available in Ered Luin. We all want Thorin and Dain fought side by side. Since the Ered Luin are main faction (because of Thorin most of all), many players feel sorry not being able to play them together. Please think about it. I know most of heroes are in Ered Luin, but please, make it hapen if you will. :) ... Yes, one other thing, can you change picture of Dain II in Iron hills for one in Erebor, only younger version? It's from the Hobbit, and way better looking. And for the last suggestion and plea. Please, after the Elves, release evil faction, doesn't matter which, Angmar or Misty mountains. Cheers and best wishes! :)

Yes, good idea. I also thought about that. Summoning but with long effect, getting the chance to realy use him. Edain team in 3.8.1 placed different power spells in different maps. Individual power can also be permanently replaced with Dain. There are many options. Really hope that Team will consider this suggestion. If not, all is good, since the dwarves are great all the same.

Hi,
we (as a team) decided against the design, because we don't like it and think it wouldn't look good in the game. But mainly it is because we think that their current design is better.^^

Just one small suggestion: could you please change the titles of these posts when they do not announce the release of a new update? :-P

Because I thought that Edain 4.2 was released when I read the title. So perhaps when you posts articles like these which are concerned with the progress you can name them 'Progress on Edain 4.2' and when you release an update 'Edain 4.2'

Thanks :-)

I have a question
On modding union i have seen Ered Mithrin units from the DVZ-Team cant you ask them if you can use this units to make a 4th faktion of dwarves (Ered Luin;Ironhills,Erebor)?

And a question too,
why have the dwarf veterens of moria the skins of the erebor soldiers?

FG15
FG15 - - 3,559 comments

The Modder, who created those, is part of the Edain team, too ;)
But 3 dwarven realms are enough, at the moment each of them has their own unique identity. Also, there aren't any known heroes of the the Ered Mithrin at the time of the Hobbit/ LotR and we don't want to invent new ones, if we don't have to.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

Yeah that is what i was trying to address..... If they only took the armor of Dwarf Veterans and made the normal troops of erebor to look like that it would be awesome, I mean it would be COOOOOL....

It doesn't fit the game where Erebor dwarves look the same with the last patch..... I suggest they rework erebor and take dwarf veterans armor and place it on normal erebor troops since the movie suggested so, and Iron hills dwarves should have another skin texture the same with what the movie suggested. And if they want dwarf veterans of moria to look awesome they should have a much awesome armor for those troops too, where in one can really tell that the armor is not from EREBOR not from ERED LUIN, not from IRON HILLS, but dwarves that actually have an armor that represent all the dwarven clans as a whole,... I mean there armor difference could mean a lot to me as an avid dwarven fan.... I mean its too much to ask but a lot of people will praise the team for that extra amount of effort
