We've been promising you an update for a long time, and here it is! The Primal Carnage team is hard at work and making more progress than we ever have before - and we're really excited with how much closer Primal Carnage is to becoming a reality.

After much consideration, we have decided to use the Unreal Development Kit to finish Primal Carnage - not a decision that was made lightly. But, in the end, the UDK was the clear choice to help us finish this game to the highest quality and deliver it to you; the fans.

The benefits of the UDK are enormous. Obviously, the fact that the engine is built for FPS games is a huge advantage. When you take into account Speedtree integration, XBox and PS3 compatability, strong support, many developers that know it inside-out and great AAA software it's easy to see why the UDK is the perfect choice for Primal Carnage.

Did you say "where's the proof?". Well, that's the reason we had to be so top secret about this - we couldn't show you anything until we're ready to replace ALL our media. That's right, all of what you've seen so far is going in the archive. So, without further ado, here's what you can expect from Primal Carnage!

Commando - First Person

T-Rex at the walls of the Base Camp

Commando

T-Rex Close Up

T-Rex VS Spino

Pretty nice, right? We have more, and as a thank you to our ever-so-patient fans - we would also like to show you this first video. Everything you're seeing is straight from the UDK!

Let us know what you think! We'll be answering all your questions as best we can and (yes, you can get excited) we'll be showcasing our first actual gameplay video on November 1st! There are heaps of other tasty treats lined up as well so, as always, keep checking the forums - we love to hear what you have to say!

Well i did love the look of the UNIGINE engine and i will feel rather negatively towards the final UDK release of this. However if you guys feel that UDK will support you better then go all out. Just dont lose the same looks and details you had in your original works.

If that is the kinda teamwork expected of the dinosaur team, won't the humans win most of the time?

I thought the UDK license only allows you to make a PC version. Don't you need a full license for console versions?

Looks absolutely awesome! Visually astounding, great work guys. I definitely looking forward to getting this. Still a bit on the fence about the classes and special abilities bit but never the less, keep up the great work!

I know, I've been following since the early screens :) I really like the game concept I just don't know how I feel about the TF2 like classes. I loved 'Carnivores' if you ever played that. I won't judge it until I see it in action of course which I am really looking forward to.

i too was a little bit dissapouinted by the change in engine. although i guess in game dev you need to take into account other aspects of an engine besides looks.

Sad news for me as a Linux-user, but a happy news for your development progress I think...
I still wish you good luck, even if I am crying, because a good game for linux died :'(

agreed, as a Linux user I am kinda bummed, this means we won't get this game.

That sure is one large nail You just hammered into the linux-game futures coffin - and maybe also Unigines. I think a lot of us were looking to You to build that initial momentum for games on Linux... I was also under the impression that it was something You were rather passionate about.

Your game looks great. On Windows and the Consoles, it will be fun to play for a while... in Linux, it would have been a game-changer (so to speak) that people would have talked about for years, and that would have put Lukewarm Media in the history books.

I'm really surprised and sad to learn that You regard the Unigine engine as "unfinished". We were having real high hopes for it.

Still.. good luck with it.

Yeah, I totally agree man.
I thought highly of this, and I hoped it would indeed be a big moment in Linux-gaming.

I'll be untracking it now.

Looks immense!,very very impressed,

Whats was your over riding reason for dumping your orginal engine ( the name of which I forget, my bad!)...it seems to me alot of mods are up in the air about what engines they will use as there is now quite a selection on the market particularly in the FPS genre.

Though UDK is amazing, no denying its potential, but there have been other quality mods turn its back on it with (surprising?) claims there is not enough programmers who know Uscript....not enough level designers who know UnrealEd etc etc.

Kinda throws a spanner in when ya got some top quality mods moving from UDK and others like PC moving too it.....how was the transition?

Looks completely rad though and good job fellas :).

Well...wasn't the unigine engine more powerful? I mean it is one of the most advanced engines that can even support dx 11, again not to say that the udk is any less good, I just thought unigine was better.

I love this game, but you guys seem to change engines alot. I would of stuck with your old one, there is to many people switching to UDK. Sometimes UDK isn't the best option for everyone, it's just picked because of the hype. Seems like all UDK games look the same art-style wise.

The engine is still very young and there is tons of bugs with it. There is almost a new build every month of UDK with fixes which shows it's still very unstable.

Unigine is un-finished as well and not multi-console. Primal carnage would not be done in time if we stuck on unigine. It was also very hard to recruit for unigine, but with UDk there are a lot of people who know the software.

Though you might wnat to update your main company website (Lukewarm not PC) as its still splattered with info about Unigine...doesn't look good buissness wise if on one site your working with Unigine and the other UDK.

Forgive me if you have another project on the go thats using Unigine or soemthing. :)

What was missing on Unigine for your guys to change for UDK?

It looks very good on UDK by the way, but changing engine now will not set you guys back many months? Or is the game really far from completion that a change now will not have a big impact?

"There is almost a new build every month of UDK with fixes which shows it's still very unstable."

Yeah ... that, or it's one of the oldest and most tried and true engines in existence and Epic just happens to be adding new features to it all the time.

hmmm this looks awesome.
2 things though: why would the spinosaur attack t-rex I though I read somewhere he only eated fish (like the mouth is adapted to eating fish)
still awesome though
and the animations of the t-rex biting the spinosaur looks like the dino just slides his teeth around the neck when he floors the spinosaur, shouldn't the neck of the t-rex bend when going down.
hmmyeah this is probably a showcase and not an ingame feature so these points don't really mean anything for the game :)
AWESOME MODELS, MAPS AND ANIMATIONS
the sound could use a little more bass. But I don't really know how they make sound (probably not like the raptor but maybe something like it..)
