^ They Still Hunger actually sounds like a decent name.
Looking forward to it! It seems like you understand all the mistakes made on THA, so that's good.
Glad you're still working on this. Good luck!
Imo you shouldn't create a new game. Its just too much work and so on.
No, it is not. Rework of current mod is impossible, because to much work must be performed on pre-release maps. So, instead of reworking 'not really good' maps of pre-release mod (on ugly Source Engine, which I personally hate) - it will be much easier to start work on Unreal Engine 4 with new models and bunch of other pretty stuff.
It is not going to turn out well. You are literally make a new game, new scripts and all that. Much more work needed than in Source where you pretty much have everything.
Unreal Engine 4 has Blueprints, which allows you easily make scripted scenes directly in Editor. All you need - is an animations, which I'm planning to buy from game budget.
In source there was buggy program called Faceposer, where you must do manually mostly everything. Or scripted_sequence in Hammer, which works time to time. In THA there was scenes where people talking simple phrases - it took about a week of work to make ones in Faceposer; in UE4 I made complex scenes less than in few days.
I don't even talking about applying new animations to zombies in Source....... get citizen model, get zombie model, decompile citizen, attach animation to zombie, test... test... again test ....
Sorry, man, with all my love to Valve games, I hate Source Engine so much ....
What works for you man,I will even volunteer for co Game designer and beta testing.
I have planty of experience in FPS such as dis, and I have a lot of love for the original even going back just to install Half life and the mod again just to play it throw for the 3rd time.
just tell me how to message you and I will do my best what ever you need done.
I'f you don't need help that's fine, just please have cross hare that's not a pain to use.
They Hunger Once More?
Think about all the oldies that just want to play they hunger on the source engine, I hate when people move to different engines like UE4 there are so many people who can't even play games run on that engine, besides any source engine game has a certain feel that no other engine that I've played has been able to capture. Most other engines are about quality graphics, but the source engine it has graphics and it has something else unexplanetory. It's just the best choice for an engine in my opinion. If you change the engine the game will play nothing like it did on source my guess is people won't like it, because the nostalgia factor just won't be there. I mean it might have the same levels guns monsters but nah it won't have that nostalgia factor.
If speak about 'true nostalgia' - then we should use GoldSource :) Joke ... Yes, - you may be absolutely right, but I can't create remake on Source, or it kill me first. I have spent 2 years for pre-release of THA on Source and this was hard (sometimes really HARD.)
As for system requirements of UE4 - I have slow PC too (to be honest, I have no PC right now), so I have no plans about AAA-game creation. Primary reason of UE4 usage - it's simplicity.
Also, is pre-release of THA looks much like other Source games? We have used custom textures made from photos.
Hey, good luck with your funding campaign! I've spread some news about the remake in a few places, like the Half-Life Steam discussions, hopefully this will get funded before the deadline.
I can't stop wondering, though, why Fund Dreamer of all the places? It seems like a bit of an obscure funding web site, why didn't you try Kickstarter?
Thank you, man - yeah, I hope to raise some funds, at least to by models and weapons.
Kickstarter or IndieGoGo (as well as PayPal) are not available for my country (Ukraine.) Fund Dreamer is only one crowdfunding platform who gives ability of raising funds to anyone. Generally it is a team of international volunteers who was kind enough to help me. Few people from my country was successful on Fund Dreamer, so it's not 'obscure' :)) This is the reason why I am using it.
Yeah +1 for "They Still Hunger".
Great to hear that you are actually still working on it, the UE4 transition seems a very good step in making the game better, I really hope it will turn into something as great as the original were. Cheers and good luck once again!
Hi, Jaayu! Nice to hear you ))
Thank you. Yeah, I'm really inspired by UE4, and, anyway, planning to make something on it.
Back when it was a Source project and you were asking for money hand outs I said no. I am sill saying NO. This is not your game, stop trying to make money on peoples fond memories. I am a game developer too, but unlike you I know when a projects should be free. This is not your ground to ask for money.
Also, transitioning this project to another engine, other than source, is blasphemy.
Black Mesa Source costs $12 per copy. So, it is also a remake of Half-Life, which makes money 'on peoples fond memories'?
If I wanted to make money, I'm not asked for pity $1500, which is a minimum required to buy a stuff for FPS-game. And I am not asking money for a mod with pre-made content, so here is nothing illegal or dishonest in my plans.
Will there be a big zombie variety in terms of appearance? Would be nice to see new ones like motorcycle cops, priests, reworked old ones etc. I also think it would be nice to make deputy zombies look more like deputies, because in original they in my opinion looked quite silly wearing helmets that would rather suit motor officers, but not regular cops.
Possible names:
Dawn of the Hungry Dead
The Starving Dead
Eclipse of the Dead
Rotten Dead
Downfall of the rotten Corpse
Q: Why you guys don't try to go to Steam EA?
A: ?
Thanks for your variants!
About Steam. Generally, because we don't want to sell THA - it will be not right, because this is not 'our game', but remake of original mod made by other company - and selling something that is not belong to us - it is not fair way. Yes, remake need budget (as described in video), but only for required things and only if people want to help us.
P.S. sorry for long response - for some reason, I don't receive e-mail notifications about new comments at ModdDB.
With Steam EA i mean, you can get some money maybe due to a Early Acces period to get some Financial help. After sometime if you guys think you earned enough money to develop it as it should to be, you can make it for example after 1 or 2 Month for free. It is similar to Crowdfunding but in that case you present your game to one of the biggest gamecommunity. And yes the original idea is not yours, but maybe you can get a compromiss with Neil Manke?
