After two and a half years in the making, it's finally done.
With three new maps, and the whole lot redone with HDR - the third episode of this wildly popular, single-player Half-Life 2 has now been released. Requiring Valve's Half-Life 2: Episode One to play, this completes the beginning of the apocryphal, engaging MINERVA story.
Update: Read Rock, Paper Shotgun's glowing review! (But do beware the minor spoilers in their screenshots!)
...love you. Freaking awesome!
Aw man. You need Episode 1 to play part 3? That totally sucks.
Great job, awesome work for just one person (and a few helpers of course)
Can't wait to play it!
... after homework >.<
Yay!
Read PM.
Really good scripting and stays true to HL2. Probably my favorite single player source mod. However, I think there is such a thing as too much HDR, which this mod suffers from. However, the game play more than makes up for it. If you liked parts one and two, you will love the new content as well.
How did you convice Chunky to authorize those news?!
i get cut if i am two sentences to long and you are allowed to post 10 pictures and al half page long news???
This isn't fair anymore!
Wowza seriously some of the best level design in source...
WIN. WIN WIN WIN.
"this completes the beginning of the apocryphal, engaging MINERVA story. "
Beginning? BEGINNING?!?! Is it just the beginning, or am I just reading it wrong?
Oh yes, it's just the beginning. There will be as many instalments as it takes for Adam to tell his story. :)
I've been waiting for this. I'm going to play the new maps today.
i don't own it... and i won't for a long time, kinda makes me sad =(
was an awsome game, deffinately gonna play it again. :)
I was about to go to bed. Looks like I won't be able to sleep unless I play this now.
looking forward to see the work his done on the maps, not looking forward to the gameplay. Someone make this work with Substance or something.
Not to double post, but it's just like... I finally got a good enough computer to run HL2 above 15fps and I finally was able to play the first two parts of Minerva and now you've locked me out of the "conclusion" because I don't have Episode 1. That's a really, really poor decision on your part, I'd say.
You'll just have a bunch of missing textures and items (like the combine core, etc)
What he said. Open gameinfo.txt and change 380 to 220 if you're really, totally desperate.
Not that there's any reason why your computer couldn't run it if you bought Ep1...
No, no, see, I haven't bought Episode 1, that's the thing. :P
You'll miss out loads of MINERVA without Episode One - you'll be wandering empty, silent corridors with giant floating red ERROR props and magenta-and-black textures.
Oh, and it won't be possible to complete either.
Your choice!
My choice is just to sulk quietly knowing it'll be weeks or months (seriously) before I can get the $20 to buy Episode 1. And then feel like an *** because I'm not just buying orange box for $30 more. :eyebrow:
I posted news on the release of minerva on moddb forums days ago.
If you want to play the third part, why not buy the Orange Box (comes with Episode One and Half-Life 2 thrown in as well as TF2, Portal and Episode 2)
ooooorrrr, find a friend who bought the Orange box but already had Episode One and wait 3 days so they can 'gift' you their extra copy via Steam.
@BlazeHedgehog... If you check out Steam... You'll see that you can get Half-Life Episode 1 for just $9.95..! And it also comes with Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast and Half-Life Deathmatch: Source...! Ya can't go wrong for a tenner! Especially considering you'll also be able to play and get the most out of this top class mod!! ;)
BlazeHedgehog, there is a thread on Halflife2.net for people giving away their HL2/Ep1 from Orange Box. You could snag one probably. Even aside from letting you play Minerva, it's very good.
Halflife2.net
That's the thread, by the way.
In truth there is no need to change a mod for HL2 to Episode 1 as all of the features that are in Ep1 are also available in HL2 as long as you have steam updating the Source Engine. We have considered going to Ep1 even 2 but Valve have been updating the base source engine constantly allowing those who mod HL2 to get all the features of the new releases. It may not happen immediately, but it eventually happens...
Bah, this means I'm not going to be able to play it until the 10th! Can't wait!
The assets are not the same. Minerva 3 and 4 use enemies and art assets that are not present in Half-Life 2.
You guys win the internet.
Thanks for the heads-up on that thread Ennui mate! A guy on there (xlucidx) was kind enough to give me his gift copies of HL2 and Ep1 tonight..! :)
Now I'm downloading Minerva..! Can't wait to get into the game!! Anyhoo... Thanks again! ;)
We have a friendly bunch of regulars :)
Can't wait to play this...
