This short vid shows the additions to 'Labwork'. Red emergency lights add to the urgency of this level, and some more debris has been added. The sound of the P-90 used has been changed as well, but I am leaning towrds making it a sci-fi laser type P90 instead of firing standard rounds. It would go with the theme much better IMO.
I havent progressed much in the way of additional construction as I'd like to get the ambience sorted out before building much more of the level. The atmosphere will influence the level design, as it usually does when I map.
Aside from mapping/detailing progress, Ive been working on models. Some new chairs are coming, lobby decor including furniture such as desks, couches etc, and more boxes and jars of various colors and sizes. I've also been working on some directional signs pointing you to various areas such as the lobby, Administrative, Restrooms, etc. There will also be an occasional map of the section you are in posted to view in-game to get your bearings, though navigation should be fairly easy for the most part.
The map is getting good, but sounds and the HUD aren't. I also agree with your idea of the Sci-Fi Laser P90, would be really cool and fit the theme. Do that.
Okay Laser P90 is cool, but don't just take a P90 model and give it Lasers. Instead try to take a weapons that looks like it was a next generation P90, using lasers.
Edit: Ah, and the note tablets in the vid, still need a better background!!!
Looking cool. Really liking the amount of sci-fi mods around at the moment.
Did you use an evn_fogcontroller for your level?
Yes I did. The two colors are set to a dark gray and a lighter gray, distance set to start at 1 and end at 2000.
I havent worked on the HUD at all lately, and the sounds really havent seen much work either besides the Pulse Rifle. There wont be many, if any at all, HL2 sounds in the final build. I pretty much work on whatever I would enjoy when I sit down at the PC, there is no laid out plan to do this this week and that next week. Since I do everything myself, it kinda helps me to be able to say 'I feel like working on the lighting today' or whatever. There IS an overall plan, but not a timeline for the HUD, sounds, mapping, or anything really.
Besides, Ive been making another runthough of Borderlands with my son lately; I forgot how much fun that game was co-op.
Oh - and Ive been working on all the overlays for the datatabs, but I havent implemented any of it yet. I will compile all of it together as opposed to little by little; its a huge timesaver that way.
Thank you all for your support and opinions; I really appreciate the feedback :) It will help guide me right where the Mod needs to be when its done.
great video, i love the differences that are made between this one and the old video, (am tracking this one for quit some time now).
personally i am not that glad to hear that you want to go for a laser weapon because i love the sound of normal weapons/bullets. but, maybe when i see the end result i will love it to. but, just make what YOU want to make, it is always impossible to please everyone.
i noticed that when you picked up that one can it went through the wall when you did trow it away, guess this will be fixed later on.
and i couldn't really figure out where the other npc's where shooting at. are there 2 groups as enemies, that are also enemies to each other?
great project so far, will keep following this one.
and i am really jealous of you, that you can map AND model/skin etc yourself. i can map but always want to model etc to, guess am a bit to lazy to start learning it myself, although i really should start doing so.
Yes, there are two groups of enemies - the NovaCor Military type forces and the Infected crewmen. There are also unifected crewmen still hiding in various locations, and the NovaCor forces will shoot at them too. The NovaCor forces are enemies with anything that is alive, and the Infected will attack anything that is alive as well.
As for modelling - its not too difficult to make simple models like I have done; it just takes a little time to learn. It definitely pays off to have the ability to make your own models though! Once you learn how to use whatever software (I like Blender) its pretty easy to make models of the basic stuff :) NPCs and weapons are another story and require animations - something I dont think I will invest time in just yet. Maybe in the next mod...
I'm loving the lighting and fog.
