This is just a quick update for my mod, just to let you all know that I am still working.

Greetings, followers or newcomers of 'The Canals.' So as you may know I am currently working on this project alone, so progress is slow, but should never be completely halted. If progress ever come to a stop for any period of time longer than a few days for any reason, I will definitely let you all know. I digress. Let's get to the juicy stuff that you guys actually care about.

I have been working on what will most likely become the first map of the mod. It features limited combat, but should keep your interest with some puzzle solving and even a little bit of platforming.

The level will take on more of the feel of a deep sewer system more than that of a canal, but it will continue to keep the aesthetic of the mod. I plan to use these sewer sections as a pacer that allows the player to calm down for a few moments and solve a few puzzles in a slightly different environment.

On top of that, these sewer sections may take on a bit of a horror vibe. I am still undecided on that, so I would appreciate some of you to give me your opinion on this. Do you believe having these puzzle sections having a more creepy atmosphere would make the mod better or worse?

I may as well take this time to let you all know that I have a few different archetypes of maps that the mod switches between every so often. There will be puzzle sections that take place in the sewers with a horror vibe; platforming bits taking place in more city-like portions; finally, there will be action segments within the canals themselves.

I will leave you all with this final in-engine image of the map so far. If you are new here and this has caught you eye, please follow, it really inspires me to work harder and better. And to the rest of you, I hope I can keep your interest in 'The Canals'

Thank you for your time,

Reeze The Vampire

Well, it is always better to build entire maps in nodraw before anything else, just to make sure it is well optimized with minimal efforts.

Hmm, I do like the sound of creepy puzzle sections! What exactly do you have in mind?

These sections would be creepy mostly in atmosphere. Thew would take place in dark, cramped, wet sewers. So the aesthetic of these sections would be very eerie and silent. This could be complimented with a couple jump scares, and a fair amount of zombies. The puzzles can range anywhere from physics type puzzles with a see-saw mechanic or floating objects on water; to puzzles involving combinations on keypads or even things like the battery or plug puzzle from the games.

Well, I'll make a not of that. Don't forget that you're technically on the team. So if at any point you feel like contributing, do so haha.
