Post news Report RSS FX Development Update

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Admiral Bromly (or just Bromly for short). It's been quite awhile since the user who manages the FX Moddb page has been active on both Moddb and the English FX Community as such I will try to do my best to update here with the limited permission set I have. I've added about 20 new screenshots, they're more animated pictures than screenshots but for simplicities sake I'll call it that.

~NEW MANAGEMENT~
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Admiral Bromly (or just Bromly for short). I am the FX English Community Technical Web Administrator, basically I manage the forum community from behind the scenes. Since I haven't really been involved with the actual FX Project from the beginning and have since retired from Homeworld 2 itself many years ago, I won't be able to write up some interesting content or advise much on any technical difficulties but I will attempt to be as creative as I can.

~THE OLD MANAGEMENT~
It's been quite awhile since the user who manages the FX Moddb page has been active on both Moddb and the English FX Community as such I will try to do my best to update here with the limited permission set I have. I've sent some messages around to get myself added to the administrator team here on Moddb so until then I can't upload files for download or edit much of the details; here's hoping I get a response.

~THE LATEST NEWS~
Now onto some good news, I've added about 20 new screenshots, they're more animated pictures than screenshots but for simplicities sake I'll call it that. Each of them is showing off some of the more interesting new and unique features being developed.

~FX 1.86 RELEASED~
Here's a bit of a surprise for everyone, FX 1.86 has actually been released for quite some time. It took even me by surprise, in fact we weren't even aware of it's release for several months until a user pointed it out to us. Unfortunately there is some bad news, some of you may have had experience in this regard but the typical file sharing services used by the FX Team suck... a lot.
Now we do have a copy mirrored on our own server but it is not designed to handle large file sharing so it may be taken down if it is too much of a strain on our server. Conveniently for this release the team has actually uploaded a copy to Windows Live, however it is split into three archives; I cannot remember if I encountered any difficulties extracting the mod.
However extracting the mod should be as simple as downloading all three ZIP archives into the same directory and extracting from "part1". If you encounter any difficulties our own mirror is a simple-single ZIP archive.

~DOWNLOADS~
Windows Live (Preferred) | FX Community Server (Alternate)

~FOOTNOTE~
As I've stated above, I've sent some messages to the FX Moddb page manager to add me to the administrator team and until then I guess I will have to try to make the best of the limited functionality I have at hand. Hopefully if all goes well, I'll be able to upload FX 1.86 here at Moddb soon.

UPDATE: I've been added to the management team, and added FX 1.86 to the downloads which is now awaiting approval.

You should look into Desura Bromly, with anything that has an ongoing development it's a good alternative to pushing out updates!

Alternatively the Moddb admins might be able to help you, if you can demonstrate you're a part of the FX mod team to them.

Ye, I've been out of touch with Moddb for a couple of years now so I'll have to look into Desura when I get the chance, it looks quite interesting.

As for the admins, I've been thinking about that but hopefully I can get in contact with the Wildheart who was responsible for managing the Moddb page before I go to the Moddb staff.

I've had a peruse through the Desura website and I'm not too sure FX currently qualifies as acceptable for it.

I'll talk to the admins sometime in the future to get a proper opinion but I think it would get rejected on two counts
- Irregular updates
and
- Not high quality or completed'ish work (I can't say anything about this for sure since I haven't tried 1.86 yet but the possibility is still out there.)

Bromly as a fallback idea you guys could always host the files up using a torrent with a tracker that way users could always have an option though someone will have to be around to seed it.

Nice, I thought fx commander died after 1.86. These are some good news indeed.

Work is still proceeding but matters have been slowed due to real life matters.

Well, when I heard 1.86 came out I was hopeful the person delegated to actually run the Moddb page would show his face again, a few months went by and nothing. After that I had planned to contact the Moddb admins to intervene but I've been so bogged down with work I couldn't keep it in memory for long.

It wasn't until recently (ironically it's busy now more than ever) I sat down and said to myself, right... These people have been waiting long enough and decided to take matters into my own hands, firstly adding the latest development screenshots and news article (thankfully both only require Moddb admins to authorize).

I also managed (somehow) to get in contact or rather send a one way message to Wildheart to add me to the team here so I could actually manage the mod page, which I haven't been to do for a very long time.

In short, it's been a messy situation which for the most part has been resolved. I can't do much at the moment other than update where I can since my studies are at a VERY critical moment (life and well... Close-to-death-but-not-actually-death) as well as my two other jobs. However in time I hope to get much more involved than my job description states since I've worked too hard on the technical side for it to go to waste, I'm no public relations expert but I know my way round the internet :P.
