Post news RSS Dear Esther selected for IndieCade2009

The cult Half Life 2 mod Dear Esther has been selected as a finalist in the 2009 IndieCade awards - Culver City, here we com!

Dear Esther,
I will be flying, not entirely gull-like, to the west coast in October to the IndieCade2009 awards where we have been selected as a finalist. This news comes like an unexpected ray of light breaking through the hebridean clouds onto the bleak, dew-soaked paths and causeways of our dead shepherds and vanishing hermits. Scrawlings on the cliff, white lines and other strange diagrams about IndieCade can be found here: www.indiecade.com

So, obviously, we're really rather pleased about this. The fact that a low-key, low-budget, experimental mod has made the final list, up alongside some fairly major projects (like The Path and Zeno Clash) is great for us - and another indication that we really did something right and interesting here. It also confirms part of what thechineseroom is all about - that there's no reason why a research project that's about experimenting with what you can do with first-person gaming shouldn't or can't be a really interesting 'game' in its own right.

So thanks to everyone in the community who has supported the mod over the last year or so - we're now looking at over 30,000 downloads in total from here and other sites, which is just downright amazing...

Dear Esther reminds me of an incredibly simple invention that leaves everyone wondering..."Why didn't we think of that?" Like LED-embedded wrenches. That guy's a billionaire. WTF?

Good job, Dear Esther. Something tells me you will win more prizes once the redux is complete.
