Behold the Yuuzhan Vong Army! This mod adds the Yuuzhan Vong Race as a playable faction and all units of this era. We are a community of modders working for the greater goal, so anyone who wants to help or support us is welcome!
So I've been working on a new idea today...
The idea is to have mixed groups of ship classes, such as corvettes and frigates operating together as one battle group. This will hopefully reduce some of the micromanagement as well as add an interesting new concept to the game.
These squadrons will mostly acts as escorts, hyper spacing in with a Capital ship in order to provide escort duties. While you will be able to purchase most ships individually, these groups will also be available.
Any Feedback would be appreciated. :D
This seems interesting. Having premade escort groups would be nice, and if you could still build the ships individually too it wouldn't cause any issues. Less individual ship management is always good, and generally people group escorts together anyway.
While it wouldn't be a huge difference it could be a nice little option for those who want to leap into battles without spending 5 minutes beforehand grouping units, especially for larger fleets.
I believe another modder already did this in a mod back on the Filefront. I'll look it up if you want.
Regardless, I have always liked this idea. More ships means the battles will be bigger but less management is also all the more welcome.
Say, if the command vessel is lost what happens to the escort ships?
The escorts spawn with the command vessel. If the command vessel is lost, the units will not spawn next battle. They will remain in the battle until they are destroyed however.
Can an option be made in settings for people to switch between this and the old?
no, but we will include individual builds of the ships also.
That would probably be the best idea since some people like to make their own battle groups of certain ships like me. But also like to do premade battle groups to.
They act as normal fighter or bomber sqaudron?
Or they (spaceships) can move invidually or be controled invidually?
This is a fantastic idea! Would the reinforcement points be increased or remain the same for a battle group? For instance would only the main ship be counted or the entire group?
Would be a fixed value for the whole group
If I'm reading this correctly, the escort ships (the corvettes pictured) follow the command ship (the Neb-B). Together they will move roughly as one unit. Again, just an educated guess.
Mostly true, but the command ship would be something like a mon cal ship. These ships spawn with the mon cal ship and operate together as a squadron. The mon cal ship is effectively a separate unit
That's a GREAT idea!!! Totally love it, you have to do this!
I like this idea, keep up the great work!
This is a great idea by Wariscool
So now, large capital ships will be spawn with dedicated escort squadrons of smaller ships. These squads will be linked as one unit. The individual ships can still be built separately at their respective shipyards.
More prominent battle shipyards will offer building selections for the escort groups to be purchased also. Sullust for example is not a battle command shipyard, and therefore will only offer individual ship constructs of the Liberator, Dauntless and Quasar. In contrast, Bilbringi, a true front line battle shipyard, will offer different types of escort groups.
The types of escort groups will vary on role, some will be fighter defense, others will be corvette/frigate defense, some will be pursuit. A fighter defense squadron might consist of the following: 2 CR90s, 1 DP20, 1 Nebulon B, 2 Ranger Gunships. A pursuit squad in contrast will be 2 Watchkeeper frigates, 1 Paladin Frigate, 1 Assault Frigate MK2, 2 DP20s. Different ships for different roles.
All ships in these "escort squads" will also utilize the 'fighter locomotor', meaning that the ships will not fly in linear paths, but rather they will arch and loop and fly more like fighters, but we plan on adjusting this so that their flight paths are not as dramatic as fighter planes.
Great job Wic ;)
I want to marry this mod. It's that awesome. :D
Im looking forward more to this mod than any game ever XD
This is a fantastic idea! And it really makes sense realistically. In the movies, most Mon Cal ships have a Corvette, Nebulon B & Gallofree's in close proximity. In a military sense also, this works since a heavy hitter like a Mon Cal would need fighter/corvette escorts for bombers, small corvette's and frigates.
This is another amazing idea, you guys keep surprising me with all your awesome ideas :)
really like that idea, keep up your amazing work ;)
Would be nice to see at least some test gameplay. Just to see how exactly ships will move, attack etc.
I may upload a short video later...
hey, pretty cool idea :D
Yup this has already been done I cant just remember in which mod but I clearly remember multiple ships jumping in. I guess its an ok mechanism, just don't mean all that much. All it saves you is a couple of clicks. Hehe.
the Only problem with this idea is dealing with different ships having different abilities, any ideas how to sort this out?
The ships can have there own abilities still, but the draw back is they move as a group so speed boost is pointless unless they all have it for example
just wondering, with all the possibilities, will these act something like fighters? like how they fly around on different levels of the map? like the millennium falcon?
Yes, they will fly like fighters, at slower speeds and we are working on limiting the arch paths
That is awesome.
Love it.
This is a very intriguing idea, with premade escort ships, one with limited credits might be able to focus on larger or at least more of, a powerful ship class, without having to worry about paying valuable credits for close escorts. I especially like the idea of mixed escorts, corvettes (anti-star fighter, gunship, anti-ship, etc) and various frigate classes. The more I follow this mod the more I am convinced that this is a COMPLETELY new game...even what perhaps Lucasfilms had envisioned.
