Texture: Burntstrobe
The texture is actually very detailed, with a very strong bump map to represent the worn and sun beaten metal hull of these ships, but due to the size of the dish, it is hard to capture that in a screenshot. When ships fly in front of the dish, it will be a nice backdrop for cinematic views.
the shieldship will feature the special ability of 'Reflective Condensing' to freeze planets, and will utilize the special ability of the original game's Canderous Assault tank to attract enemy fire, making it a true shield to Alliance fleets.

Now this is some amazing detail. I trust you guys only apply this worn-out look to the older ships that have seen years of combat. I want a Meiator so shiny that even the Yuuzhan Vong have to admit that it´s a beautiful ship.
I'd think for a ship filling a role as crusial as this one, they'd have a little maintanance on the heatshield, it only takes one tiny imperfection for a heatshield to completely blow appart, as we've seen with the Columbia space shuttle, the heatshield here looks to have a LOT of imperfections and would definitly break appart in a few seconds if exposed to the raw energyoutput of a sun. Ramparts on the inside I quite like, but the heatshield thing really needs to be adressed for suspension of disbelieve.
Ah I finally put the finger on what this reminded me of, the movie Sunshine, which went completely off the rails in the last 30ish minutes of an otherwise really good sci fi movie.
The shieldships were no longer in use, since the mining colony was destroyed at nkkllon. The shield ships were abandoned in a derilect state, and were only remembered for use during the Vong War because of their reflective condensing ability.
The shieldships were actually pulled out of mothball storage at coruscant in the novels, and were only used for 1 battle. For the sake of fun, the player will be given 3, but additional ships will be found lying around nkkllon space.
Well that fixes the whole issue I had with it, it looks perfect for what you just described.
Hah, every time I see a ship model here, I'm like "OMG, they can not do a better job than this" and then the next update comes, and I'm always like "What?! How do they do that?!"
