War of the Silmarils is a sub-mod of Third Age: Total War, the ever popular total conversion for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The goal is to follow the lore as closely as possible and faithfully reproduce the heroic First Age of Tolkien's Middle-earth in the Medieval II: Total War engine. War of the Silmarils features many new unique factions, each complete with a roster of units, a completely new campaign map of Beleriand and the lands to the North, and much more. Heavy Infantry, Elf-lords of Valinor, tall helms, long decorated swords, long ornate tapering shields, shiny/heavy mail armour, white cloaks, flying the blue and silver banner with the device of Fingolfin, the banner of the High King of the Noldor, and the banner of the Stars.

The Nobles of Hithlum are counted amongst the most valiant Elf-Princes to have issued forth from the Undying Shores in the van of Fingolfin. Stout and hearty these valiant lords are, having braved steadfastly the icy wastes of Helcaraxe, the crossing of which is recounted as one of the most daring ventures undertaken by the Noldor. Dreadful upon the field of battle they are to behold, bearing swords of great stature, the sheen of their mail hauberks like the white fire of the stars. To them is entrusted the defence of Hithlum and its provinces, their prowess and long blades feared by all orc folk. Proudly they fly the device of their fire-hearted Lord, Fingolfin in all battles they partake in.
