Regarding to the amazing Revelation UI by SGHi (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34971).

Sadly your standalone version on The Nexus isn't up to the current update of VUI+ and has some problems with mods like KeyBoy (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62410).

Are there any plans of an updated version of your standalone and if so, any way one could help out?

Nov 24 2018 Anchor

The plan is to make a new VUI+ addon that will no longer require Revelation. We can start this menu by menu. You'll only need to have VUI+ 7.40 installed with Original Fonts enabled and I'll be sending you patches for testing.

All Revelation menus will be switched to the original fonts and I'll try to make every menu aside from the Pip-Boy (and textured stuff such as the Reflectron) use the classic textures.

Sounds very nice.

I'm up for everything, as soon as you're ready ;)

I'll resume working on it after I publish VUI+ 7.72. The latest VUI+ versions contain edits essential to this "Revelation" addon.

OK, I'll resuming working on this addon this weekend. It will require the latest development VUI+ version which you can get here. The main features will be:

  • One addon for both FO3 and NV versions.
  • It will use the classic Fallout font on Revelation menus
  • Aside from the obvious VUI+ requirement, it will be standalone.

So install that latest VUI+ 7.74 and lets get this started.

Here's the first module. It handles the dialog menu, and its prefab requirements.

Let me know how it looks on your system and post a couple of screenshots.

Alrighty then, thank you for the first module ;)

Let's start with some screens:

This is how my dialog menu looks with only VUI+:

Now this one with your "old" Revelation patch:

And last your new V1 module:

I forgot to mention that you must install VUI+ with the classic font option. However, I'll make sure to include a "force install" of this option into the next modules so that it won't matter how you install VUI+ as long as you install it.

My bad, sorry. Reinstalled VUI with classic fonts

Looks good and classic. Do you think NPC name area can fit very long names ?

Also what about the texture colors ? These follow the HUD color as defined by the menu settings.

Should there be an option to use the natural colors or will everyone prefer to use the HUD color hues ?

Apr 6 2019 Anchor

Honestly, I'd prefer the "classic" Revelation texture detached from the current HUD colours. More like your previous Revelation Patch. But if it's possible, maybe add an option to switch between these two. I can only talk for myself.

OK, I'll add an option for the colors to the settings file.

It seems we have a problem with long names. Need to figure out how to fit them, or where to place them in case they don't fit.

Apr 6 2019 Anchor

Was the name alignment in the original Revelation / your old patch differently handled?

Sadly I'm not familiar with coding / scripting, that's why I'm asking ;)

Apr 7 2019 Anchor

Yes, this is new code based on the latest VUI+ as an addon, not as a merge between VUI+ and Revelation. It should also adhere to the quality standards of VUI+ which means that strings should not break out of their intended rectangles in non-extreme scenarios.

Both issues are fixed: Mega.nz

You can open the settings file and set <_VUI+OldstyleUseHUDColor> to 1 to use the HUD Color.

I've tested with the longest name I know (Brotherhood of Steel Paladin) and it fits properly.

Looks and works great ;)

One little thing I noticed. In my opinion, the first / top dialog option "cuts" into the frametexture. Maybe it's just me, but I think it would look a little bit better with some pixels space inbetween.

Just to demonstrate what I mean:

Mega.nz

  • Slightly enlarged background texture to expand the vertical margins
  • Aligned the Keyboy numbers with the exact y of their respective topics instead of the vertical middle
  • The Keyboy numbers alpha will match the topics

Please check it out for compatibility with Keyboy. This should be the final edit on the dialog menu. I've also tested topics wrapping and a few other "worst case" scenarios.

Started work on the container menu. This is very important, it serves as a template for many other menus in VUI+.

Updated VUI+ (required): Mega.nz

Addon: Mega.nz

I haven't started work on the buttons. Hopefully within this week.

The addon will be renamed to Oldstyle to avoid confusion with Revelation.

Gonna check It out, as soon I'm back at home (in roughly a week)

And back home.

Tried out the new version. And here are some quickly made screenshots:

I've tried this and it's great! It's a great step up from the old Revelation.

I did like that the dialogue window was a bit bigger then, to show more dialogue options. Also the classic font is great but a bit hard to read, how would I go about modifying California fonts to make it compatible? I imagine it's just an issue of font size and interline?

I guess actually I think the classic font works great for the pipboy screen because of the scanlines, but I would prefer california font everywhere else. I wonder if I can figure this out.

Another thing, it seems VUI+ is detecting a mod overwriting files when I open a crafting menu. I have JIP Crafting Menu on, but disabling it didn't change anything (using MO2). Is that normal or something I'm doing wrong?

Really looking forward to the developments on this!

I believe the dimensions of the dialog window are better now compared to Revelation. There's no point in displaying a huge texture all over the NPC's face, when 90% of dialog can perfectly fit without scrolling in the new one.

It should be very easy to change it to the California font, but the problem with the those Oldstyle textures is that they pose specific limitations to string dimensions. So, unlike basic VUI+, it will be impossible to have this addon look "polished" with any alternative font.

Anyway, do install the California font and let me know how it looks.

Yes, this is alpha development it's not meant to be used for anything other than testing a menu and then uninstalling to keep playing your normal game.

So, I would love to post some screenshots but it seems steam is not playing nice and the hotkey isn't working for some reason. Essentially, the last choice (6th) is outside the dialogue window. I'll keep trying to find a way to fix that...

I see what you mean with the dialogue window size, I guess it's because I talk to my companions a lot and they always have so many choices that I appreciate the extra room. Anyway you do what you think is best.

Which fonts would I replace to only replace the pip boy screens? Is that even a separate font?

May 12 2019 Anchor

Let's keep this thread focused on the Oldstyle addon please; if you wish to take screenshots you can use ENBoost and enable its screenshot hotkey setting.

I'm looking forward to the crafting container! What I'm getting looks like this : Imgur.com I'm guessing it's as you said because it's not finished? Or is it a problem on my end?

May 13 2019 Anchor

It's not finished, don't worry. Only the Dialog menu is finished; the Container menu is being worked on. I'll fix those buttons when I have the time and inclination to it, hopefully soon. Once the Container menu is finished, Barter and Crafting will be a matter of minutes.
