Once again, we return back to the fray, bringing more news about the upcoming races for 7.0.

After a long period of reduced Dev Blog activity, as we were extremely busy and focused on the coding aspect of things(which to say the least, is not the most exciting thing to show off), we return to reveal some more information about the upcoming new factions in Unification 7.0!

Before jumping in however, we would like to once again thank you all, because it was thanks to you that we managed not only to secure a position in the last year Top 100 rankings but also, most importantly, secure the 3rd Place! Truth be told, we wouldn't be here without your support and enthusiasm. It is indeed what fuels us alongside our love for the game and modding to keep moving forward! Here's to even more and better things for the future!

And now, returning back to the main course. In the last Dev Blog, we talked about the long awaited Blood Angels rework. In today's post, we shall cover two of the six upcoming new factions in 7.0, and two of the most requested to return, the Praetorian Guard and the Night Lords.

If you have been following our work over the years, we believe you may have seen the Praetorian Guard race mod with its unique artistic style. While already had a solid base, now has finally been fully finished and refined to the current faction standards Unification has. Staying true to their reference origins(we recommend watching the film Zulu for more context), the proud men of Praetorian count on quality over quantity to conquer the battlefield. From high power but slow firing Martini lasguns to an expanded motor pool and flexible heroes, the ranged tools at their disposal are nothing to be scoffed at. And whoever has, they soon have regretted it. But as with all things, it comes with a price, as unlike the other Regiments, they lack sufficient melee capabilities.
This is where the Ork Merks of the Blood Axes come in play.

The Blood Axe Orks, with the correct price, or the Emperor's Coin as is called, are willing to fight for the Praetorians and fill in their gaps. And by investing more of your resources in their ''service fares'', you can make them stronger and more willing to fight for you!
Our resident Tzeentchian Follower and Shadowsword Commander, Caldaris, has prepared a video of his experience with the Praetorians in the beta. Please mind that the Voice Over rework is still under way and things as expected, are subject to change until the final release.


A true victorious force is one of combination. Embrace the elegance of the Praetorian firepower and the brute strength of the Merks and raise the colours of Praetoria and the Emperor high!

On the other side, we have the Night Lord, the sons of terror that do not need much of introduction.

Like in the previous versions of the standalone version, the Night Lords count on hit-and-run tactics, in particular with their multiple choices of high manoeuvrable units and abilities that can cause terror and panic on the enemy!

In addition, the Night Lords carry one more unique ace up their sleeve to hunt down their victims. In contrast to the regular infiltration in Dawn of War, all Night Lord units can infiltrate by making use of heavy cover they may find. This allows for more dynamic strategies and options to the Night Lords player, where they can use the terrain to their advantage! Obviously, this does not apply to big sized units like their Titans.

A good example of this mechanic in action has been prepared by the one and only TheLaughingMax, the Encyclopedia Unifica, in his themed 6 player FFA from the 7.0 beta!
(Please note that like with Caldaris' video, the Voice Over work is not done yet and things are not final until the main release of 7.0.)

We hope you have enjoyed this Dev Blog, something that admittedly was long overdue to be done. But with much of the work now in place, we aim to produce more provided time and in real life allows us.

Of course, that goes without saying.
In fact, we have fixed and improved a lot for 7.0 all across the existing races.
But for the first part of the new dev blogs, it is better to focus on explaining a bit the new stuff.

Well the campaign addon beta has been out for 7months. :)
Currently added races: tyranids, chaos daemons, inquisition, you can swap SoB-->WH.
If you're interested it's in the "addon" section.

You have graced us with incredible unique experiences we will never forget. The iron hand are all about upgrades and vehicles, conceptually you could make it so their standard units have an upgrade system similar to hero gear as for vehicles, not much you could do there maybe more dreadnaught variants not sure.

Also out of curiosity, in your opinion are the white scars worth making a sperate race? imagine Space marines with the Eldar speed boost

At the moment not I am afraid. They would play like regular Marines with more bikes.
And we already have the DA Ravenwing, the 13th and LOTD covering the bike marines aspect.

I have a question about survival mode difficulty. What is the difference between normal difficult heroic defense, and hard difficulty but not heroic defense? Does the AI perform differently on heroic defense? The tooltip mentioned boss battles but that's not very clear.

During heroic defence, the attacker will deploy special attacks or tricks.

Ranging from the Imperial Fists fortifying over time to the famous EC Avatar of Slaanesh attacking your base.
Each attacker has different attributes.

I also have a question about "assault" maps. So there are some game settings that are exclusive to assault maps, whatever those are. I don't see any maps labeled assault (unlike, say, survival) on the map list. What is it talking about? Is assault just normal skirmish?

In public, Assault maps are WIP.

In a previous devblog, we covered that thanks to Fuggles' efforts, the entire code has been remade for them and they will return as a new game mode in 7.0.

So when I play a game, it's very slow and laggy. Even outside of pitched battles (like when I just start the game even) lag is very bad. My computer should be more than qualified in both RAM and graphics card to run at full speed. Do you have any suggestions for improving performance? I could lower graphics but again, that really shouldn't be a problem.

the amount of work that goes into this mod is astounding, i personally docked thousands of hours too this game just because of this mod alone, none of which i regret at all, i am a huge 40k fan and you do not know how much this mod means to me.
i hope the Leagues of Votann makes an appearance but unfortunately there is not much too go by at the current moment so i hope you guys keep on going

As for Votann, currently no plans for them. Indeed GW has not have released much for them to support a fully fleshed out new faction.

I've been playing this game since they first originally released and I must say your mods are hands down the best ever!!! Add so much more play value! Keep up the amazing work!!! I'd love to see some space marine and ork biker units, along with leagues of voltan!! Maybe a few larger maps to! Seriously can not wait for the new update!!! This last one with death guard and krieg was epic!!!

Has either of these bug issues on campaign been fixed yet?

Crashing when attacking stronghold of added factions in campaign.

Game options being reset when playing campaign and then switching back to skirmish.

Also, I love the thousand sons and really enjoy what you guys have done with them. I would love to see you add Magnus the red along with matching the codex of 9th edition a little closer.

For example, give basic rubric marine squads 1 soulreaper cannon per squad (currently they get 0) and allow the option to switch any/all of their weapons to flamers instead of inferno bolters.

Give them up to 2 scarab occult term squads that are ranged (instead of melee with thunderhammer which they cant use) with 1 soulreaper cannon and hellfire missle per 5 units, so at full strength they get 2 of each.

Are there any plans to do any of these changes in the future?

Quality of life improvement = I would love to have a list of all the factions that you can toggle on/off to play against so you dont have to play against factions that you dont enjoy or feel are OP. For example I dont enjoy playing vs legion of the damned because you kill so few units, and I hate playing nids because they just feel so OP compared to other factions. I would love to be able to disable those two and still leave it on random to play vs any others.
