Question: Will this eventually lead to custom mesh support?
That depends if there's a modder out there who's able to do it and willing to do it for the FC2 modders. This game is old, and many don't see value in it (but we all still do).
Even if we got the Dunia source, I would not be surprised if it doesn't contain import/export plugins for xbg files.
Also, we'd still need support for creating havok collision meshes too.
I hope it happens one day. It's always been a dream of mine to make custom singleplayer content for this game
