True Stalker is a WIP total conversion for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series developed by the team behind the modding website AP-PRO (rus.).

Spanning familiar yet drastically reimagined game levels, the mod offers players a new story that takes into account events from the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy—despite it having only a scarce connection to them—in addition to gameplay improvements, revamped visuals, and an official translation into English.

A mostly inexperienced stalker, the protagonist has carried out a number of raids in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, yet hasn’t dared to trek too far from the Cordon. The harsh conditions and unknown dangers have kept him from risking it all, but now that the routine of life in the Cordon has lost its meaning, our hero decides to finally venture beyond all he’s known to answer the beckoning call of the Zone…

Q: What does the mod name mean?
A: The mod name does not imply that this is a “true” S.T.A.L.K.E.R. project, i.e. “the way it was meant to be.” Rather, it reflects the essence of the story: it is about a true stalker, about the most ordinary one. There’s a reason the word “Stalker” is written without periods.

Q: How much of the mod is complete percentage-wise?
A: We’d prefer not to estimate the mod’s percentage of completion in order not to mislead players. To date, over ten hours of gameplay are complete.

Approximately a month has passed since the last news on True Stalker’s development. Now that we have more content to share, we’ll make it short & simple.


  • a new HUD is almost fully implemented into the game, with many new UI elements being developed
  • initial loading screen & main menu concepts are complete
  • UI elements have received special sound cues & notifications
  • new art of almost all levels has been drawn for the loading screen


  • aesthetic changes to levels
  • fixing various flaws
  • maximum quality compilation of some levels
  • vegetation has been changed
  • a large part of the final level for chapter nine is complete
  • more loot to find in levels


  • work is being actively carried out on assembling a weapon pack
  • other developers have been called to assist in this field


  • work on ambient tracks is nearly done
  • tracks have been composed for several key moments in the story


  • new geometric models have been created or reused to fill levels
  • some new models have been made for story characters, including ones made from scratch


  • multiple tests of the current build
  • discovering and fixing issues
  • several side quests
  • a large amount of engine features/fixes tailored to the project’s needs
  • half-complete translation into English
  • mod voiceover for the story is nearly done

This all makes up a small part of what came to mind when writing this article. Besides that, there exist a lot of smaller additions that received just as much attention during development.

Every effort is being made so that players can enter the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in the scope of True Stalker!

Just an update on the translation and translator: I’ve been working hard at another project that’s basically done by now in addition to having a summer job. I’ll be translating True Stalker these next few days, but after that I’ll be inactive until mid-August.

The Army Warehouses are done. Along with everything else, that means 60% of the translation is written. I will, of course, do revisions later while playtesting.

I hope that other project was updating latest SGM 2.2 with Gunslinger thats being made =)

Soooo, inactive until mid august. This hints to me that True Stalker should be released roughly after September =(

I was subtitling the 1999 movie With Fire and Sword in Serbian.

Regarding the release date, I’m not sure the developers will wait for me. If they don’t, I’ll try to set aside some extra time for the translation.

Just curious, theres gonna be new voiceovers. Will there be also subtitles for when they talk? Subtitles are great. Not just in the UI box when you are interacting. If you know what I mean

There will be subtitles. I personally worked with the developer to make them as clear & readable as possible, and I’ll do my best to carry over the context and meaning of the voiceover into English.

Is the mod having attention to detail? I mean, as good as the STALKER series are, the games lack polishing and attention to detail, especially the first 2. Random position of the furniture, random sounds, missing animations... You sure know what I mean.
Since youre using vanilla weapons, this is specially noticeable in those, mostly in sounds and animations. Is stuff like this going to be fixed for this mod?

We have a plan to replace vanilla weapons, and I'm sure the developers will maximize the amount of detail in the work they're putting in.
