Installation Guide Tutorial- follow this to the word

Posted by on

Important Note: Make sure you have WinRAR installed on your computer (winrar is FREE you dont need to register). This will allow you to extract the downloaded files from their RAR packs. If you prefer video tutorials, scroll down to the bottom.

Please make sure to follow the exact instructions to avoid complications.

Step 1: Install the original Third Age 3.2 by installing the following files in proper order:
All three downloads contain easy-to-use installers.
1. Third Age 3.0 (Part 1 of 2)
2. Third Age 3.0 (Part 2 of 2)
3. Third Age 3.2 (Patch)

Step 2: Rename the Third Age 3.2 folder to Third_Age_Reforged. Exactly that.

Step 3: Download Third Age Reforged 0.9 part 1 (There are 2 parts)

Step 4: Double-click the downloaded file top open it. Now click the Extract To button in the top left corner of the WinRAR window. Now navigate and extract to the following path:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\modsIt will ask you if you wish to overwrite/replace the files. Click yes to all.

Step 5: Go to your Steam Library and right-click on Medieval II Total War, select Properties, and then Set Launch Options. Insert the following string:
--features.mod=mods/Third_Age_Reforged

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 6: Now you must DOWNLOAD PART 2"!!! (without part 2 you will be missing the ui and text folders, and your game would not work properly...)
"To apply part 2, just get Third Age Reforged folder that comes from extracting part 2, and drag it into your mods folder of your medieval 2 tw folder."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 7: Once you have done this, you will be able to launch the game by choosing the first option when launching the game on Steam. The option will simply say "Play Medieval II: Total War". This will override the default Medieval II game, so if you wish to launch the original game after installing the mod, simply remove the string from the Launch Options you inserted in Step 5.

Step 8: Choose download region on steam: UK London (the most used in the commuity)

Step 9: Lower your graphics to the LOWEST settings if your playing with more than 2 players.

Step 10: make sure that you read the readme in side the Third Age Reforged folder for a couple extra fixes.

Custom scenarios have been removed for now, and will be reintroduced at a later date once reworked with the new factions and units, etc.

We are proud to release this new standalone patch, we worked hard day and night to create a brand new balanced meta, 4 new factions", almost 100 new units", 5 brand new battle maps.

We look forward to improving the mod from this point on, the core has been created now and is stable, make sure to follow the install guide correctly in order for your game to run perfectly.

Step 5 says I need to change the launch options, so does that mean that when I launch Medieval II then Reforge will open? In other words, would I be able to still play the normal version?
