25 years after mankind attacked and defeated the Strogg homeworld, contact with a research outpost fell. A group of 8 Marines is sent to check what happened. The soldiers' dropships are shot down and the player finds himself alone on a hostile world.
The Strogg are back and raided the outpost!
It turns out that 25 years ago, mankind stole the Strogg's slipgate technology and experimented with it at the research outpost. The Strogg want to open a gate to another dimension, plunder it and thus return to old strength.
But this really goes wrong ...

You will have to have the full registered version of Quake installed to play this pack. The Return doesn't contain any assets from Quake.

My goal is to bring back that feeling of the good old late 90s FPS.
I was inspired by canceled & alpha/beta games like:
HACX2
Prax War
Duke Nukem Forever (1998)
Amen The Awakening
Prey (1998)
Daikatana (1997)
Unreal (Alpha)
DOOM 4 (canceled)
Alien Breed Conflict
In The Shadows
The Y-Project

Will you use the higher-quality Quake models from either the recent remaster by Nightdive or the popular mod Arcane Dimensions?

Maybe I'll use models from a Quake1 mod.
I'm currently using a model converter that converts the Quake1 models to md2. My mod will not contain any Quake1 models. I don't want a license dispute with Microsoft.
If I use high-quality Quake1 models, the Quake 2 models should also be high-quality. Unfortunately I don't know any hq model packs of the monsters. If anyone would like to support me, I would be very grateful.

In regards to avoiding license issues, you should be in the clear using the shareware monsters or fan remakes of them. I doubt they'd care so long as you're not giving away the gameplay content (e.g., original levels) itself for free or money.

Hey this looks awesome! I'm really intrigued to hear the design is inspired by cancelled betas. Didn't expect to hear HACX 2! A shame that never happened. I'll be looking forward to this with anticipation. Good luck on your project! I love Quake II!

Thanks. It is a genuine project of the heart.
It's really a shame that many interesting games have been discontinued.
