Yes I know this news update is not strictly about Red Wars, but something has come up that the team is very concerned about, and needs to be addressed by the modding community as a whole. We of course mean payed mods. If you don't care about our opinion, check screenshots otherwise.
Recently Valve has implemented a new policy for allowing users to put their mods up for sale essentially as community made DLC. Modding is for a community, the idea of taking something and making it better for everyone. By requiring people to give you money for this, you cease to be a modder, and become a community DLC contractor. By monetizing community content, especially in this manner, the PC platform will gradually lose its sacred modding community in exchange for an abundance of miniature DLC's. People who only seek to make a quick buck and will flood the outlets with poor quality mods to try and scam people to buy them.
We modders work hard for our shit, we all know that to well. But we do this for you guys, not for ourselves. It's fine to ask for donations, and I encourage people to donate to mods they really enjoy. But putting mods behind pay-walls is despicable. It is very different to accept donations for your hard work, and hiding your work behind a paywall. The latter approach goes against modding and what our community stands for, and we will not have it.
Valve has also been censoring mods that properly ask for donations outside of Steam, showing that they really only are in it for themselves. Valve has also banned people for speaking out against this policy (Me included) from the steam community.

(LINK REMOVED used to be donation links).
I sincerely hope TaleWords doesn't jump on board with this like Bethesda did. But just in case, Red Wars will not be available on steam workshop anytime soon, and I encourage other modders to remove their mods from the workshop until valve rights this wrong.
IN LIGHTER NEWS: See the screenshots section for some screenshots for 1.7 :D
UPDATE: Steamcommunity.com is one of the main Free Mod Alliance groups, go join it! The Free Mod Alliance is the organized resistance against this new policy by valve. It is a coalition of major boycott and free workshop groups, united around this single cause. Join as many as you want.
LONG LIVE FREEDOM! LONG LIVE MODDING!
-Nuke out.
Putting a price tag on community-made mods is the worst idea Valve has ever come up with, and I thought Greenlight and Early Access were bad ideas...
you sir are a hero, i agree so much.
Bravo, agree with all that is said. Mods aren't DLC, they shouldn't become the cheap money business DLC are
Bravo, sir.
Thanks.
Bravo!
I respect this decision.
Huzzah!
The morons at Steam who did this are only doing it for Skyrim so far, and to steal those mods would be easy as hell. Hell, my brother never paid a cent for the DLC for that game. They have a 24 hour refund policy, so I figure as a protest, we steal every "mod" we can. That being said, Steam Workshop is made up of 75% ****** recolors anyway.
Also, prepare for this to get removed: https://imgur.com/z9sDjFq
Agreed, Mr. Nuke.
Well spoken good sir and I hope other modders follow in this approach and avoid steam workshop due to this crap policy
Well said!
Right on guys! You know, I bet if The Red Wars was put under corporate control, we wouldnt have any swasticas for the Swazi Reich. Thats something else people need to think about with this, corporate control, which means various censorships. Modders cant be messed with since they are individuals, and with the various download sites, a nation cant mess with them
In fact, since this was originally about Skyrim, lol, anyone remember there was a Lord of the Rings mod for Skyrim that got legal threats from Warner Brothers? Seriously. Copyright infringement crap
Horrible idea that would kill modding, and lets be honest, it would seriously wound PC gaming. It'd be right fun to be able to throw this in the face of a "Master Race" type when they crap on consoles though :P Oh you got mods? How much did that MLP skin pack for New Vegas cost, 50$?
Same for OSP and all free material that can be used only in non commercial work, if you sell a mod with work who was donated to community by others that's messed up ! So it means that you have to do all the work for your "DLC" lonely and good luck to you to make something good ^^
If there is anything I could ever do - Just ask Sir.
Valve Became a Bitch ever Since The Dota II - I mean it, Valve Became a Tyrant and a Hypocrite company that only cares for money - everyone knows that.
And now this.
Excellent job, bitches - carry on!
Bravo sir! You are a brave man and you got my full support.
Totally agree with that. Steam is being corrupted by money that's scaring. Greenlight was the beginning, then early access, then community DLCs and then what ?
Then you will have to pay for creating you own video games ^^
Totally agree! Hope, as we all do, that this does not become prevalent, and that the modding community continues!
I totally agree with you, the fact that they ban mods who ask for donations outside of steam is really unfair. SHIELDWALL !
Don't apologize, you are absolutely doing the right thing.
i´m stay with you brother!

Now that it is in fact gone, will you guys put it up on Steam?
Old *** news, but ENOUGH ******* DRAMA. Bethesda made a stupid decision, but just shut the **** up. GOD.
