NEW DEUS EX MOD: "THE REBORN"

The first project of the "two-man army" Ex Machina Games presents a thrilling, complex story in the spirit of the apocalyptic visions of George A. Romero. Greatly inspired by Romero's "Night Of The Living Dead", "Dawn Of The Dead" and "Day Of The Dead", THE REBORN sends the player on a heart-racing trip through a world which has turned into a living nightmare overnight. An inexplicable, lethal plague has spread like wildfire across the entire globe, making the major epidemics of the past appear like a harmless cold. About one third of the world population got infected in the blink of an eye, way too fast for medicine and science to find a cure or even an explanation for this phenomenon. But this only marks the beginning of an unbelievably greater terror, because the dead do not stay dead...

THE REBORN features thrilling, complex gameplay in the spirit of the legendary first "Deus Ex", and the depth of the story with its surprising twists and turns, the carefully created characters and dialogue and the immersive level design prove that horror stories don't necessarily have to lack style and complexity.

Everybody out there with a passion for "Deus Ex" style games and/or "thoughtful horror" in the spirit of George A. Romero should be looking forward to THE REBORN!

Well, it's been three weeks now since the last news... there's sort of a principle: if you don't hear or read anything from us for a longer period of time, this means that we're working our asses off. It does *not* mean that another promising mod went down the drain. ;-) Indeed, we've been working nonstop during the past few weeks, and to top it off, there have been serious technical issues with the REBORN data we sent to our new mapper Patrik. THE REBORN simply refused to work on his machine. Suspecting the GOTY edition to be responsible and having been proven wrong, we have tracked down the problem now - damaged files ("thanks" to a damaged .zip archive) and a missing .utx file were the culprit, so Patrik should be ready to continue mapping in a few days.

Meanwhile, Ian has begun to work on meshes and textures. He stated that his weapon skins are not final, but they look sweet already.

We as the "German Team" ran the gamut regarding the ongoing graphical maintenance work and have presented THE REBORN with tons of new meshes. We realized we needed some decorational meshes for the clinic sequence in the very beginning of REBORN, which is meant to be included in the demo we put on schedule for Christmas 2004. In addition, we finally created meshes for the "gadgets" which will replace the Deus Ex augmentations and were also needed for the demo. Well, this part is done. Aside from some minor first person mesh animations still left to be done, *our* part of artwork has been finalized. Ian has a lot of work to do though, but importing the stuff he will provide into the game should be a piece of cake compared to the mesh madness we already went through. ;-) Now that the coding is 99% done as well, Patrik, Björn and me will focus on the cream of the crop: mapping. This fact will make us please your eyes with new and "finalized" in-game screenshots soon, and that's what matters the most to you, isn't it? ;-) Hey, we owe you some, but the time-consuming overhaul of the visual side of THE REBORN was absolutely necessary to prevent us from boring you with premature screenies showing incomplete REBORN stuff.

As you can see, we're getting ahead, and as soon as I'm finished with the beta test of Part 3 of mighty Steve Tack's ZODIAC mod (which, that much I can tell, will rock your nuts!), I can finally switch back from my modeling software to UnrealEd and do my best to get the demo out the door for Christmas. You cannot kill what doesn't die... ;-)

Yes, we've actually been working. ;-) We've been busy browsing a lot of applications we received during the past days and weeks, and we are proud to announce...

Whats in your machine dude? The load times in Half-life 2 are fast as hell. Ever think it might be YOU and not the game?

Ps: if anyone else is considering going source with a mod, DONT!!! The realism in source is great and all, but it doesent NEARLY make up for the unbearably, painfully, EXTREMELY PAINFULLY LONG LOADS ON EACH AND EVERY SEPERATE MAP. These loads (for me) demolished half-life 2. I would start having a lot of fun and really getting in the mood of the game and teh level would end and kill off my 'gaming mood' with those loads. At some times i found myself stopping at the end of the map and turning around to make sure i finished off all the enemies and hunting all over the map i was on because i dident want to face the loads

I was watching this mod forever, i think its dead, they said they were going source about a year ago and every time i try to visit their site it says that its porting to source and that the website is being remade. Its been being remade for about seven or more months. If anyone on the mod team reads this, if this mod is dead could you please send me the files you're done with, so i can at least summon zombies all over my random maps?...

please? thank you
