Where you got inspiration for this particular creature?

The idea of an ancient forest-being corrupted by Sauron just came to me when writing the Dol Guldur plan - its appearance is inspired by the Witcher and other depictions of 'wendigo' or 'leshen' things.

I try to have him for the final assault at each game vs pc. It's simply fascinating... an ancient Maia spirit enslaved by Sauron? Or maybe an older creation of Morgoth or maybe one last survivor of one of the ancient species mentioned as first creations and then destroyed in the First Age wars with his sole exception until the Necromancer's forces took it.

Description

An ancient being originating from the darkest depths of Mirkwood, the Gwanthaur has been fed the souls of the Necromancer's enemies for many long years, twisting its form and turning it into a terrifying creature, which he then set loose upon Thranduil's people.

The Gwanthaur is one of Dol Guldur's final spellbook powers.
