Looks a bit to basic to me. Maybe don't use the traditional rectangular box, but something more organic.

It's really simple but i like it!
It looks like it will be kinda hard to see where the bar is sometimes, could you make it a bit brighter, or something?
I second the brighter idea, or maybe a slight glow around it so it's easier to spot.
Just make the blood more visible by giving it specular highlight (makes it look more liquid and organic) and it will be perfect, no need for a glow or even to change the rectangular form IMO.
I might be able to use some illumination command, I'll see.
