Posting Valve made content to another Valve game is illegal ? ... seriously who the **** came up with that nonsensical concept >> I can understand porting COD stiff into the game for example but its odd that Valve made content cant be ported to other Valve made games makes no sense. And this cant qualify as stealing as 1 everyone knows where its from and 2 its like advertising for Valves other games. Its a FREE mod and as such completely legal under the free and fair use clause of the US Copyright Act. He does NOT claim this as his own creation and eve gives credits to boot so as far as I and US laws are concerned this file is 100% legal.

IIRC, the rationale is that they're "distributing paid-for content for free."

This is illegal regardless of what you think. If you have a problem, take it up with Valve. Same for the uploader.

Bottom line is, you have to buy HL2 to own this. If you haven't bought HL2, and you download this mod, it's pretty much piracy.

its not illegal to port content from one game to another AFAIK

but it is illegal to take content from a game, and put it up on the web (in any format) so while the way you see it is its just porting, it is technically illegal because of this middle step.

You could write a program that extracts models and then puts them into Sven-Coop and that would be perfectly legal. and I imagine re-modelling the combine soldier for this use would come under fair use.

I'm not saying you're going to get sued, normally valve are quite a friendly organisation and I certainly haven't heard of anything like this ever being taken down. but just for your information this is the way it works (to my knowledge, feel free to correct me if you're a lawyer or something)

Just saying, you are still porting from an entirely different game, no matter the name or same company, its a different game. Just throwing that out there

Cut the ********. There is nothing wrong at porting models, no matter what the laws and their interpretations say. If Valve wants to have its word on it, then it's definitely their right, but don't white knight over it, it's not YOUR concern, Valve won't thank you and no one will give you a medal for claiming this as piracy.

Firstly, the uploader in many of these cases may be unaware that it's illegal. Our comments would help in that respect.

If they know and they don't care, on the other hand, then we serve as a fine annoyance before the admins delete the file.

Seriously, STFU with the goddamn piracy argue & just rate!
There are so many illegal stuff around the world, but no one cares, & when a little thing comes - "OOH, ITS ILLEGAL!"
& Yet again - STFU!
I rate this good (for a LOD model).

Its just taking the ragdol of one of the decompiled hl2 models, and slapping it onto the hl1 dm rig and compiling. Its cool either way and has been done before, but yea, you are about 4 months late to the party bro.

Question Seven

Q. Can I use Valve IP in my Source Mod?
A. Yes. However, please make it clear on your store pages that your mod is a mod and not created by Valve. Commercial games and mods that include Valve IP such as characters and story-lines need prior approval from Valve.
Q. Can I use multiple Valve IPs in one Source Mod?
A. Yes.

This applies for the GoldSrc too.

Since the model is from Half-Life 2 (Valve's Property), and Sven Co-Op is a GoldSrc (Valve's Property) game; You can use this.
