It's a pretty interesting starbase anyway, so not a bad addition I think.

This looks so much more complex than the empirical starbase.

An Empirical Starbase? I would think any space station would have to be based on empirical evidence, otherwise they'd probably fail or explode or something. :p

Yes, the Rebels don't really have the same need for symmetry that the Imperial designs do.

Description

One of the great things about making a Star Wars mod is that the Expanded Universe is so vast one that there is almost certainly a ship or space station for any unit you may need. Yet the hardest role for me to fill in this mod was the Rebel Starbase. In the main canon, the Rebels never really had any large combat focused space stations, and the New Republic basically used the same types of Golan platforms and other defenses the Empire used. This was a problem; while many of the civic structures will share models between the Alliance and Empire, I wanted anything with a combat role, including space stations, to be faction specific.

Thus while I usually avoid giving units that only appeared in Empire at War major roles (instead they tend to get more specialized positions like scout or antistructure cruiser), I had to make an exception for the Rebels and give them the Alliance Space Station from Empire at War. The tier 5 station does make an impressive defensive structure. With maximum upgrades it boasts an array of Lasers, Ion Cannons and Proton Torpedoes. It can scramble squadrons of emergency starfighters for defense, and can even serve as a permanent listening post to spy on nearby planets, allowing you to always have advance notice of any attack on the front line. Should the Empire or anyone else launch an attack that overpowers its defenses, it will go down fighting and detonate its own main reactor, which will destroy or at least do major damage to any unit in the area.
