From the makers of Thrawn's Revenge: Imperial Civil War, Ascendancy is a Star Wars mod set after the Battle of Endor in the Star Wars Galaxy. Fight for galactic ascendancy as multiple factions from this period in Star Wars history.
Thew new TIE Fighter model and skin for the Imperial Remnant.
Model and Skin by Corey
You know, you'd think with how ineffective swarms of cheapo expendable fighters are, the Empire would have just buried the crap out of the original TIE Fighter by now.
Sticklers for tradition, those Imps are
.
Well their original plan was to replace the TIE Fighter with the TIE Interceptor. By Endor 20% of the entire TIE series in service were Interceptors. But then everything collapsed and the TIE Fighter got a reprieve.
The TIE Interceptor wasn't much better though. Well, it was better, but it still lacked the one thing everything else had: Shields. Without shields or good armor, all it had going for it was firepower and maneuverability. That's a major flaw, like, think of all the resources wasted on mass-producing second-rate cruddy fighters.
Sticklers for tradition, indeed. I'm glad I turned down the invitation to the imperial flight academy...
Well, the TIE Interceptor used the same power plant as the TIE Avenger (which had shields and hyperdrive), and from Thrawn's era onwards many of them were retrofitted with shields to minimise pilot and fighter casualties.
The Emperor, and my extension the Empire, didn't give a damn about the military personnel. The idea was to mass produce everything, even the troops and bury the enemy with numbers, not to mention the fear the threat of invasion brings. The best TIE series starfighter, in my opinion is the TIE Defender. Everything you could want in a fighter, quad linked laser cannons, Ion cannons, twin proton torpedo and concussion missile launchers, even a friggin' tractor beam. And the shields. Dont forget the sheilds.
Oh yeah, the TIE Defender is good, though I still find the ideal starfighters being the Thunderbolt from Babylon 5, the Taiidan Triikor from Homeworld, and F302's from Stargate.
That said, one thing I think everyone can agree on: While the Empire had horrid strikcraft, they made up for it in having the coolest designs for capital ships ever. First time seeing the Star Destroyer crossing the screen in Star Wars? I had a near-death experience.
Looking great so far.
I assume a lot of other art assets are coming from the original Thrawn's Revenge mod. How much new modeling/skinning are you going to do for this one?
Btw you should introduce yourselfs to the rest of the SOASE community on the forums.
A lot of stuff that uses assets from the original game needs to be redone (a lot of the fighters, Nebulon-Bs, some frigates, some hull plating textures). It's not really a huge amount.
As far as posting in the Sins community, we want to make sure we have a lot to show for the work we've done so far before we do, otherwise the response wil just be "well why not just join Requiem/SOGE."
Nice work putting in the basic models :).
