In 2373, the sudden destruction of the Federation oupost on Ivor Prime revealed that a second Borg incursion of Federation space was underway. Starfleet gathered a fleet in the Typhon Sector to stop them. It was time to put the lessons learned from Wolf 359 to the test.
The Borg immediately inflicted heavy damage to the assembled flotilla, which responded in kind, heavily damaging the Borg Cube's outer hull. The Borg, however, did not stop to engage the Federation's defences. Instead, a running battle ensued from Typhon until the Borg were within sight of Earth, culminating in the Battle of Sector 001.
I think the federation deserves an "At least you tried" cake. They deserve it after something like this.
