I saw the title "Look in the mirror" and thought this was going to be a preview of some Terran Empire content or something.

Also with the angle of this pic, it makes it look like a very good graphics and unit mod for Bridge Commander. Now to cut the wings off the Scimitar!

TNG films were bleh for the most part. Honestly, they should've skipped Insurrection, only
doing First Contact and Nemesis and did a movie about the Dominion or something inbetween
(Or I don't know, Q, or the Traveler). Nemesis felt too much like it wanted to be Wrath of
Khan. Picard and Shinzon Rivarly (Kirk and Khan) and a sacrificial death to save the crew
moment with Data, then later resurrected (Spock). The whole telepathy thing with the
Remans felt needless, I wish they played more on the Romulans than introducing an
entirely new race altogether. Its also a little hard to believe that a slave race
segregated on the moon, could've built a fully functioning battleship with that
much power, hidden from the Romulans. Also, Picard wasn't always bald!

(End of Rant)

I am here trying to think how they indeed did build such a ship... I mean I guess if you have a big enough force that escapes somehow.. you could pull off some pirating for awhile, while you gather the resources needed. Then possibly enslave people to do your bidding in building it. Funny now the more I think of it. It sounds like something Star Wars would pull off. Then again it is plausible. Space is big after all.

Shinzon fought with distinction in the Dominion War. He had the support of some key members of the Romulan military and at least one Senator. And the Remans themselves are clearly technologically advanced. I can accept that Shinzon's Remans, with certain members of the military and Senate turning a blind eye, could have built a dreadnought in secret.

Why would you think that the Remans built the Scimitar without Romulan knowledge? The script and apocryphal areas of Trek say it was a Romulan ship. As OrionSlaver states, Shinzon had the ear of some in the military and senate. If he had kept opinions to himself, the Romulans may have given him a limited command of the ship.

Also, why would Nemesis suggest Picard was always bald? Clones are not necessarily identical down to baldness patterns; it is perfectly possible Shinzon would be bald due to environmental issues in the mines or in relation to his medical problems. The picture of Picard at the academy shows him bald, but I could just as easily shave my head and grow it back later. The picture may have been taken when a young Picard wanted to try a new hair style (or lack of hair style).

I think that if the Remans wanted to build the Scimitar that will eventually
overthrow the Romulans, you wouldn't need to enslave your people to
build it. In-fact, its the only true joy they would have gotten after countless
generations of persecution and exile.

The only way the ship could've been built in complete secrecy, is if the
resources were actually constructed on the moon itself. Every component,
the weapons, the "perfect cloak", the Raptor fighters, the Thalaron
technology. All of it had to be manufactured and engineered on the moon
in secret facilities. It also would've had to be a multi-generational project,
mostly due to lack of regular engineers to plan and produce the ship.
Shinzon was just the added motivation to complete it.

That, or the Tal-Shiar were secretly supporting them.

Personal theory is that the Romulan Star Navy was constructing a vessel with this general shape, but not with the black armor and other non-Romulan elements observed in the design, which were probably later Reman modifications. I agree with the others in that it's unlikely that the Remans would be able to construct a ship of this size and complexity on their own, considering they are a slave race within the Empire, and we have never seen or heard of any indiginous Reman vessels before.

Anyways, the explanation I would put forward regarding Shinzon's rise is thus: after the Dominion War, the position of Praetor was gradually undermined by internal dissent and dissatisfaction with Imperial leadership, brought about by a general economic recession and the diminished state of the Imperial fleet. Once the stirrings of the Reman revolt began, some members of the Romulan government and military looked to take advantage of the situation for personal gain. Shinzon garnered a few silent, but powerful allies in the Romulan Senate, the Tal Shiar, and other Imperial bureaus, who tipped him off to the location of the "Secret Base" where this new dreadnought ship was being constructed. When the time was right, a raid was conducted, which put the installation under the control of Shinzon and his forces, while his allies in the Senate and the Tal Shiar covered it up (naturally, it being a "secret base" meant that few knew about it anyway, those who did, but were not allies were probably silenced). Shinzon used the existing base hull of the experimental Romulan warbird to build the Scimitar, using a number of advanced technologies either stolen or given to him by his informants within the Romulan military. With his new flagship, the support of his political allies, and a large contingent of elite Reman shock troops, all Shinzon needed was to remove the resistance without incurring extended conflict. With the help of Senator Tal'Aura, one of his "whispering allies", Shinzon assassinated Hiren and the rest of the Senators, ensuring the total success of the coup. With this, no one was left to stand between Shinzon and the throne.

Another interesting nuance might be that the reason that this "proto-Scimitar" being constructed by the Star Navy was not finished was DUE TO the Dominion War. It was designed in the early 2370s as a new flagship to trump the D'Deridex, but due to a lack of resources and time, it ended up sitting in the dockyard, half-complete. It would explain also, how the project got hijacked in the first place -- nobody expected a half-finished ship to be a threat...it probably wasn't even in the registry yet. And due to the fact that it wasn't functional, it probably wasn't as heavily guarded as it could have been. So, Shinzon captures it, finishes it up, and all of a sudden, this massive shadowy ship shows up one day, with a vaguely Romulan look to it, and nobody has any idea where it came from. It was an unexpected element, to even the masters of unexpectedness. Shinzon, to me, is basically the Romulan Napoleon. Not only a masterfully deceptive battlefield commander, but also a dynamic politician as well.

It also seems to me that the Thalaron weapon is a Reman construct, given how apparently unstable it is (ex. being that it was destroyed by a simple phaser blast). Another matter to address is, while we observe that the Romulans are not afraid to use drastic measures when necessary, I think they would not use a weapon like the Cascading Biogenic Pulse. It seems too "over-the-top" to be of use to them. Given how sickened Donatra is by the mention of it, and the fact that it was a shocking thing to use such a weapon to murder the entire Senate chamber, I don't think it would've been condoned by the Romulan government or the Star Navy.

Although. I'm not quiet sure what they planned to do about the vast majority of the romulan fleet. Sheer numbers.

In fact, romulans don't need Scimitar. Overpowered Tevara and all sorts of debuffs are more than enough for unparalleled star dominance.

Scimie is just a symbol of their power in this mod. Not to say it's worse than other titans, of course. But 2 Tevaras frighten me more.

I was never that big a fan of the ship. Over gunned and under powered, a very big target for enemies to look for.

I don't know about that - it took on three top-of-the-line starships without much trouble. Its shields were still at 74% and the ship itself only suffered light damage at most. Until the Enterprise rammed it, of course.

That said, I'm not much of a fan, either. Mainly because in my opinion the Scimitar is butt-ugly.

If you mean in the mod, then I'm with you on that. I'd rather have the two capital ships. But then, I'd say the same about most of the dreadnoughts. Except the Hutet. I love the Hutet.

I say overgunned and underpowered because for all its sheer size, for all the armaments listed by Lieutenant Worf (52 disrupters, 27 torpedo launchers), it never lived up to that lever of danger or ever really fired all that much.

Granted they only wanted to disable the Enterprise so naturally they wouldn't fire it all, but the two Norexan class ships could have easily been overwhelmed by that much firepower even if only a fraction of it could fire in the same arc.

Come to think of it the only time I think I've ever seen a starship fire all weapons in the same arc would be the Enterprise-D in "The Best of Both Worlds".

Also odd that the quantum torpedoes that could do so much damage to a Borg Cube and utterly destroy a Sphere wouldn't do all that much to the Scimitar aside from shake the living hell out of that bridge.
