Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
Some tweaks on the akira model and texture giving it more depth :)
Beautiful as always :)
Nice aft section.
On a different note, does the Akira not have quantum torps by design? It's the only late game ship lacking them.
This was discussed a while ago before I became a dev. It was decided that for balance reasons they weren't necessary.
We may discuss this again but no promises.
It will be a debate worthy of song!
I'm rather on the fence about it, personally.
As long as it doesn't overpower the Akira, I suppose.
Whenever the Akira appeared in Canon (ST: 1st Contact, for example), it's using photon torpedos. As I see it, quantum torpedos are much harder to produce and don't get issued to regular ships. In the series/movies, the ships equipped with Quantum Torpedos are unique ones like the Defiant or Enterprise-E
And the refit Excelsior class, as well as a select few others.
You're right that they're state-of-the-art weapons and therefore only present on a few types of ships, but the Akira, as Starfleet's new frontline heavy cruiser, would logically be high on that list.
So we can at least say that it would make sense for the Akira to fire quantums. Whether we'll see them in-game or not is a matter of balance.
From what I gather, the Akira is supposed to primarily be a torpedo chucker. Might I suggest compensating with a reduction in phaser rate of fire? Could also link it to the refit to balance it via cost.
Correct. She was designed as part of a new generation of starships that gave greater emphasis to tactical capabilities. Her multiple torpedo tubes reflect this, and indicate that torpedo volleys would have been a strength of the Akira.
However, I don't see that this would come at the cost of phaser power. Phasers are the primary weapons of all Federation starships and, as sen here, the Akira was far from lacking in that regard.
Besides, functioning as a cruiser it would make no sense for the Akira's phasers to be nerfed in favour of torpedoes. She's a heavy, resilient fighting ship that can get stuck in, bring the pain and also hang in a fight. It would be wasted siting on the sidelines lobbing torpedoes.
I don't even really think the lakota subtype should be firing qunatums, except for a hero ship of the uss lakota herself. The episode its from all but proved that quantums are just ammo, its likely just about any ship could carry them, but in the mod's time period, they simply aren't a plentiful, wide spread munition yet.
USS Tetsuo lashes out with its devastating abilities...
I love the Akira, such a unusual yet familiar design of a Federation starship.

Hi al, I'm Late to the party here I know.
Must say this is an excellent mod you have here guys. Purchased sins just for this.
In Fact this akira not having quantum torps is probably the only niggle I have so far
As is said before just seems odd that an advanced battlecuriser would not get them
Would like to see this updated in the future. I'm sure a later tech tree upgrade to replace the photons to quantums would sort this out, you could even make that option make the ship cost a little more for balance if needed
Great work tho on the mod
