Is it possible to "eliminate" the black part around the scope?

The black part is realistic so I will keep it there. It could be removed but that would give you a strange effect as everything around the scope would be zoomed in also. The thing you are wishing for is only realistic when using dot sights on weapons and that sort of 'scope view' seems to be popular in recent FPS games. However, it is not very authentic...

the way i personally would have it, is taking away the black, and only having the scope part zoomed in, everything else normal view but blurred since you wont be looking over there, but of course its still visible in real life... idk if thats possible on stalker though...

It's called Render to texture.

I'm don't think the engine supports it.

I have seen that in stalker mods but I cant remember for which game. It is definetly capable of doing that though because as I said its been done already. Personally I think the picture above looks good for a scope view. I found having the outer view showing was off putting.

so far i have only seen two games that use 100 real scopes here are video of both Youtube.com and also insurgency Youtube.com

They are not 100% real as the scope is too far away from your aiming eye. But they do use the cool effect of flexible zoom distance and look cool in terms of animation.

N.Aaroe, I love what you all are doing and the mod looks great. But let me just say that "the black effect" is not realistic. Red Orchestra shows proper zoom with scopes and as an owner of an AK with the PSO scope I can tell you that proper usage allows peripheral vision. I know nothing can be done due to engine limitations though...

I'd rather the area outside the scope be zoomed in than completely black so you'd have some field of view, rather than a small area to see.

I see what you're saying. But in combat you don't have a "ZOOM" on a holographic or red-dots/ Iron sights used which actually Ill note there that would be a cool addition. anything that's 2x-4x down should just be a set perimeter of a zoom and the blackness be taken out. Agreeing with both you and the community here the blackness should only be added with that on any form of high caliber rifle. I.E. et al snipers.

Maybe I'm using my scopes wrong but everything around the scope doesn't black out. Out of focus perhaps but not black. Seems a bit odd.
I do understand that it may be a limitation of the engine that it has to be blacked out because it would zoom as well... but as for being realistic.. not so much. imho.

Having said that. I love the worn look.. it's awesome. I am really looking forward to this mod. :)

AudioGhost and timnwells, you are right that the engine is limited in terms of how the scope visuals can be designed. But I must remind you that there are differences between the visual of a dot-sight and a scope-sight.
A dot sight is 1 foot away from your face when aiming and a scoped sight must be right in front of your aiming eye (and the other closed) in order to have the optimal scoped aim. So the blackness around the view is authentic. (Yes, you can open both eyes when aiming and get rid of the blackness, but no proper shooter is doing that when pulling the trigger.

This is 100% accurate, i have an hunting scope with 2x zoom, and i need to have it right in front of my eye, lets say 1 to 1.5cm. And the diameter of it is 3 to 4 cm. So it will illuminate the view around the scope.

I know what you're saying, but the PSO scope is not like a traditional hunting scope. Due to the eye relief length, proper usage allows for peripheral vision. It's an engine limitation.

That's true. But like you said, Engine limitation. We can only "fake" the effect.

man... its the zone u will never find new weapons and the addons for them they are all used cause of the harsh conditions of the zone. If u want to go somewhere and there u will find a stalker or a bandit etc dead and he has a sniper rifle and u take it ( i would ) u want to be new and fresh ? come on

"The scope vision blocks everything except what you see through the optics just as it does in real life."

Dude what? No. Unless the scope is the size of your head.

When you aim down a scope you normally do so with both eyes open (unless doing sports shooting), and you do see outside. And nobody puts the scope right next to their eye.

They should have just been honest about the reasons why, I doubt it had anything to do with realism.

Anyone who's ever shot with a scope knows this is more definitely not true for an experienced shooter. And even people who close one eye typically have some edge vision due to relief distance.

Closing one eye while using scopes is not correct. You are supposed to keep both eyes open, though your brain will largely ignore the input from your left eye (if you're shooting from the right shoulder).

Perhaps you can remove the blackness around the scope, but make the rest of your vision extremely blurry?

I do agree with you about the left-eye input. After watching how soldier in my country use their scoped weapon, the other eye is used to watch the slightest close reaction. Sorry if I'm not correct, but the effect should be removed.

It looks well made but it makes no sense. Why would a Ukrainian Security Service agent keep his scope dirty, rather than cleaning it?
Anyone with or without training would have the thought to clean their scope.

And if you come up with the excuse "If you take a sniper rifle off a dead bandit with the rifle on the ground, the scope would be dirty." That is true but the first thing I'd do after picking up a scoped rifle if I was a stalker, would be check the scope and clean it with a rag or bandage.

Aswell, what everyone is saying about the black crap around the scope is correct. Even if you shoot with one eye closed, you'll still be able to see outside the scope. You don't have the scope jammed against your eye.

I don't understand, Gnomus scopes does it pretty well regardless of the engine limitations, Why can't you do the same?

Here's some examples of what a scope looks like when you're looking down it.

Notice how the scope isn't glued his eye?

The most obvious thing that would happen when the scope is glued to your eye is this happening.
Youtube.com
Which is very likely to happen with a rifle such as a Mosin Nagant or SVD.

A combination of this scope and gnomus' scopes, without the dirt crap all over the scope, would be brilliant, and would probably be one of the best scope mods out.

Description

Ok, so I partly used the great work of CrommCruac and Gnomus in combination with my own skills to create the scope vision ideal for the MISERY concept. Here the big differences really lie in the detail so you will have to wait and see exactly how it plays out on your screen ingame.

The scope vision blocks everything except what you see through the optics just as it does in real life.

I made many scope variations and they all somehow contain layers of carefully designed reticules, scratches, dirt and light reflexion as I find fit.

The image is compiled by two ingame screenshots.
