The stand-alone mod S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly aims to be the most stable and customizable experience for fans of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. It's powered by the Monolith 64-bit engine, a custom fork of the X-Ray engine.
Winterizes the vast majority of environment textures and replaces rain with scripted snowfall. For update 4 hotfix 8. Not compatible with 1.5 RCs.

--Yet Another Winter Mod
--==============================================================================================
I wasn't happy with any of the other winter mods for Anomaly so I decided to take matters into
my own hands and create Yet Another Winter Mod (YAWM for short).
YAWM "winterizes" the vast majority of environment textures in Anomaly as well as changing the
footstep sounds to sound like the player is walking on snow. In addition YAWM replaces rain with
snowfall using a script to spawn snow particles around the player. Rain is removed by making the
texture invisible and the sound silent. Since the snowfall works by spawning a large number of
particles around the player, it may cause performance problems on some PCs. As of the
Version 2.0 update there is now a choice of heavy, medium, light or no snowfall.

--Changelog
--==============================================================================================
Version 2.0----2020-06-17:
--Installation has changed slightly so please read the new instructions. In addition if you
have installed YAWM before it is recommended to uninstall old versions of the mod before
installing Version 2.0.
--Changed the ground textures. Both the diffuse and normal maps/bump maps have been replaced.
I personally think they look better but let me know what you think.
--Fixed the issue with snow textures looking shiny under certain conditions by slightly
modifying the shader file "hmodel.h".
--Fixed overbright snow textures when using the default setting "r2_tonemap_middlegray 1.5"
by including a fixed version of "img_corrections.h" shader. This is the same shader file
posted on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly discord as well as ModDB to fix the overbright sky.
I included it in YAWM so users wouldn't have to track down a separate fix just for the
textures (and sky) to appear correctly. This also means that if you previously changed
"r2_tonemap_middlegray" to "1" you should set it back to "1.5".
--Fixed overbright snow textures on DirectX 8 by modifying the "terrain_LEVEL_lm.dds"
textures.
--Gave snowfall its own weather presets instead of having it snow during the rain presets.
It still snows during rain weather CYCLES but the snow has its own weather files that
change things like fog and sky color etc.
--Modified snowfall script. The most notable change is to the way it detects the current
weather. Now it should be more accurate and using the weather editor to change the weather
will start or stop the snow when appropriate. Do note that when loading a save that was
experiencing snowfall it may no longer be snowing. This is normal and due to the new way
the script detects weather.
--Tweaked snow particles. Snowfall should hopefully have somewhat better performance while
at the same time appear thicker.
--Changed how you choose the heaviness of snowfall. Instead of installing a
different script depending on which version you wanted, now everything is handled
with one script and you choose which version by using different versions of
"gamedata\configs\environment\dynamic_weather_graphs.ltx"
--There are now four options for snowfall - heavy, medium, light and none. Each choice
also has the lighter variants included in it. For example the heavy choice also includes
the chance for the medium and light variants to fall, the medium includes the light,
light only includes light and none (obviously) disables snowfall altogether.
--Updated particles.xr compatibility patches to include HollywoodFX 1.1, RealisticFX 1.1
and MinimalFX 1.1.
2020-02-03:
--Installation has changed slightly. You will now need to choose the version of the snowfall
script you want and copy it to your scripts folder. By default there is no script in the
main mod folder.
--Added light version of snowfall. If you were having performance problems try the light version
and see if it helps.
--Fixed pixelation on snow textures. The ground should look significantly better now.
--Fixed a few rock textures that looked wrong.
--Winterized a handful of new textures that I had missed initially.
--Replaced sound files of birds and insects with silent versions as one usually doesn't hear
either in the winter.
2020-02-01:
--Added compatibility patches for HollywoodFX, RealisticFX and Particles Remade. Remember to
install the patches LAST.
--Added a check in yawm_snowfall.script to see if the player is indoors and if so stop the
snowfall. Snowfall will resume when the player is detected to be outside again. One downside
to this is that you will not be able to see snowfall outside when looking outside through a
window. Also indoors with regard to the script is considered anywhere that is safe from an
emission. If you find a building where it still snows inside there is very little I can do
to prevent it.
--Modified the snow effects. It should fall slightly slower now.
--==============================================================================================
--Installation
--==============================================================================================
NOTE: It is recommended to install YAWM with a mod manager such as JSGME so that you can easily
uninstall YAWM if you so choose.
NOTE 2: If you have installed previous versions of YAWM it is recommended to uninstall them before
installing version 2.0.
1. Extract the gamedata and db folders from the main files folder to your root anomaly folder.
2. Choose which version of snowfall you want (including none) from the snowfall choices folder
and copy the corresponding "dynamic_weather_graphs.ltx" file to your "gamedata\configs\environment"
folder.
2b. (Optional)
If you use HollywoodFX, RealisticFX, MinimalFX or Particles Remade, copy the "particles.xr" file from it's
respective folder in the compatibility patches folder to your gamedata folder and overwrite when
asked. Make sure you have installed one of those 4 mods first.
2c. (For DX8 users)
If you play on DirectX 8 copy the files in the DX8 fog fix folder to your
"gamedata\configs\environment\weathers" folder and overwrite. This will make
it so that the fog during snowy weather does not appear too bright on DX8.
3. When launching the game for the first time after installing (or uninstalling) YAWM be sure to
delete your shader cache by checking the appropriate checkbox in the Anomaly launcher.
3b. If you have installed previous versions of YAWM and changed the "r2_tonemap_middlegray" setting,
open the console when in game and enter "r2_tonemap_middlegray 1.5" (hint: you can copy and paste).
3c. In the advanced graphics options uncheck the option "wet surfaces" or things will appear waaay
too shiny.

--Mod Conflicts
--==============================================================================================
YAWM has a file conflict with Soundscape Overhaul by Solarint, specifically the file
"dynamic_weather_graphs.ltx", however you can safely overwrite it with the one from YAWM.
Soundscape Overhaul only modifies the file to change the thunder sounds, however when using
YAWM you will not hear any thunder, so the file can be safely overwritten. If you uninstall
YAWM but keep using Soundscape Overhaul, be sure to put back Soundscape Overhaul's version
of the file. Alternatively you could merge the files but in this specific case it isn't
necessary.
--==============================================================================================
--Uninstallation
--==============================================================================================
If you have used a mod manager to install the mod then you should be able to simply disable it
like any other mod.
If you installed the mod manually then you will have to delete all the files the mod came with
from your gamedata directory (compare them with the files from the download to know which files
to delete).

I love you.
the ultimate winter mod for STALKER is here
Is the snowcover on the ground gets too bright when its clear sunny weather?
It doesn't happen as badly as in other winter mods but it can still happen at times. You can fix it by opening the console and typing "r2_tonemap_middlegray 1"
Welp, gona try it out asap.
yes you are right thank you
Hi there !
I allready have the particle file from hollywood particle, how can I do ? Are they mergable ?
The particles.xr files need to be merged in the particle editor. I'm pretty sure I know how to do it so I'll put out a patch in a day or two. Stay tuned!
You're saving me, pretty sure I couldn't do it even if I knew where to begin ^^ Thanks for that ! For the answer, the mod, and the patch to come ! =3
Can I take the opportunity to ask if anything else is required (Like a new game for exemple) or if it has any known or possible conflict with anything else ?
I just updated the mod with a compatibility patch. Also a new game is NOT required. As for conflicts, anything that alters particles or environment textures will not be compatible, as well as anything that alters w_storm1.ltx and w_storm2.ltx in gamedata\configs\environment\weathers.
Excellent ! that's reactivity ! ^^ Thanks much =)
Damn, it changes the atmosphere so much ! Amazing ambience !
It's sad how sometimes indoor the footstep sound is snow. (In hangars for exemple, since it's related to ground dirt sound I suppose.) And, a contrario, snow on road still make a road foot step sound. Not sure it could really be fixed though..
It would also be cool if snow would seems smelted around campfire, I saw some smelted snow textures that could do the trick. But again, not sure it could be easly done ^^
I'm dreaming about season, breath cloud, textures on mask, survival temperature managment, and some other extras, so it's game development at this point xD
Well, that wass my nitpicking and dreams ^^ Cause damn it's great ! Thanks much !
Thanks for the merge!!
And great addon btw!!
Bro Daedalus you rock man this addon is the ultimate winter mod its just fantastic i just couldn't believe it when i got it installed and ran the game is perfect man i hope the next patch you can add like a cold snowy overlay for the masks it would be a plus but for now this is just mind blowing better than any snow mod posted before for anomaly i rate this a 1000 of 10.
Frost on the gas mask visor would be cool, Metro vibes
Any chance you could slow down the effect of the snow? Id like to stream with this on and slowing it down might help the bitrate, plus it just looks a bit too fast imo, not sure if you could even do it.
The snow should fall a bit slower with the update I just put out. Let me know if you still think it's too fast.
HEY YOU. YEAH, YOU. This is real nice, mate. Staying tuned for any bonus updates. Blizzard sfx? Variable snowfall patterns? Great work, gotta go ::crunch:: ::crunch::
Finally, true snowfall!
Gonna continue playing until its December ingame and then I'm gonna slap this beautiful addon on top of my current Anomaly-install! Honestly, can't wait!
That's a nice idea ^^ I want my stalker 3 to have season patterns =P
I think on the Patreon of Dead Air you can actually see the dev Lanforse experimenting with dynamic seasons.
Isn't the same dev team as Anoamly ? Am I confusing with Misery ? Or did I hallucinated all that x) I'm lost with all those overhaul ^^
But anyway, really ? Damn ! How cool would it be ! I don't know if Stalker 2 will be a top or a flop, but there is always hope nonetheless when I think about what is Stalker modded now, and even more what could it become in the future ! ^^
LOL , I do this too , when winter comes...
I loved the old winter mod for CoC originally, it had a "light rain" instead of snowfall, and only snowfall then was pretty much broken and looking bad.
The winter mods change the game to one extent, not just visually ... everything is easier to spot in whiteness around. And Monolith has the best camo then , lol ...
My ground textures are pixelated at anything over about 5 metres away from me, all my settings are high and i'm not sure whats causing it. it must just be the game, i guess i'm just used the grass hiding the texture quality, either way its awesome. could you by any chance merge the particle file with that of the original particles remade mod, i don't have a clue how to use the particle editor or even how to access it.
Now that you mention this I also notice the same thing. Not sure what's causing it but I'll look into it. No promises though. Also I just put out an update that includes a compatibility patch for Particles Remade.
Yep! I have that banding issue as well in front of me. Not so much of an eye soar but is noticeable.
And thanks for the particles remade update.
Edit* I just remembered, im also using the reshade anomoly. DOnt know if its the cause.
There's a snowfall inside of almost every building even in Lab X16 tunnel but overall 10/10 plz fix
*sorry for my eng
The newest update should fix the snowfall inside buildings. Let me know if it doesn't.
Should rename it to The Best Winter Mod honestly
Just installed, no snow inside. (at least not in Dead City/Army Warehouses)
Outstanding mod, this is really a must have. Thank you @Daedalus-Prime.
Getting bad performance on an RTX 2070...
Especially with Snowfall
What's your CPU? I've noticed that particles in stalker put much more strain on the CPU than the GPU. As for performance without snowfall, the majority of the textures are just edited versions of the ones Anomaly comes with, so performance should be comparable with base Anomaly. Now the snowfall script is always running to check what weather it currently is, so if you want to see if the script is causing problems you can delete yawm_snowfall.script in gamedata\scripts and see if your performance improves.
It's an i7 9750h. I saw I had grass details on at max by accident and my FPS soared. Except in Red Forest, I usually get 15 FPS looking towards the forest from Forester's building (with all grass settings minimum)
I only say this because this mod pretty much cuts my FPS in half from base anomaly, when the snow falls... but still well done it looks very nice
Any hope for a version for potatoes with 75% reduced snowfall? I get a huge fps drop from stable 60 fps to choppy 20 fps when it's snowing.
Got a Ryzen 5 1600, 1050ti and 8gb of ram
I deleted yawm_snowfall.script and the game runs fine with the new textures but having no snowfall kinda sucks. The game also ran fine even with the script, as long as I was indoors, so I don't think the constant checking of the weather/indoors is the problem, just the sheer amount of particles.
I'll whip up a very light version of the snowfall and add it to the next update.
Yeah, ive been seeing fps dips when in Radar with heavy snowfall. I didnt have it before.
Still loving it though. Spotting enemies is so much easier now =)
I'll add a light version of the snowfall to the next update.
Beautiful! Definitely the best looking winter mod I've seen so far. Very atmospheric!
The only flaw I see is that some of the sounds of summertime wildlife are still present. Crickets, frogs, cicadas, and such. Are they hard coded? I haven't seen a winter mod that has managed to get rid of them yet, so there must be more to it than just getting overlooked?
I'll look into muting the insect sounds, hopefully I'll add that to the next update.
Nice! The frogs in Zaton and the Great Swamp are the most immersion-breaking, because they "sing" constantly. At least the insects are fairly quite and intermittent.
Back to the pixelated ground textures, i tried the other winter mod that came out not too long ago, the ground textures were fine in that mod, but the textures were just installed in a regular folder, not through a database file. maybe try installing the textures in a folder instead to see if it still happens.
I actually just found the problem. It's the texture compression. It absolutely butchers the texture quality. The ground textures are gonna be uncompressed in the next update. The only downside is that file size of the mod will be a bit bigger. Also I'm gonna reduce the resolution of the ground textures from 4k to 2k to save space, but don't worry as a 2k texture without compression in this case looks significantly better than a 4k texture with compression.
I was in cordon and I was hearing crickets. Crickets cant chill out in the winter =)
You should replace the cricket sounds with wind howls or gusts. That will give it a more colder, desolate feel.
This is fantastic, thank you. Very non-issue but any possibility of altering the PDA map to also reflect the snowy terrain?
This comment is currently awaiting admin approval, join now to view.
Just needs a frosty mask overlay that needs wiping clean now and again.
Wow, thanks for the quick update! The soundscape is definitely much better! Feels cold and desolate.
Only thing I'm seeing now is that for some reason the ground snow texture is very glossy when it snows, even though I have wet surfaces off. I suppose I could turn down the gloss factor, which I already had lower than default, but it's just the snow. Everything else looks fine.
Other than that this is nearly perfect, great work!
Just wanted to mention that the glossy snow went away on it's own. Not really really sure what fixed it, but I guess it must have been a freak occurrence.
you probably Turned it off but didn't restart.
