(revised version link in description) Ever wanted local legends such as Fang, Ghost and Guide by your side as you play as Strelok? Or perhaps needed the badass Mercenary Scar to join you on your quests to the centre of the Zone? This addon lets you do that.
Here's the revised version.
This addon substitutes a handful of characters (4 in total) with different characters you're likely to be familiar with. Here's a list of them:
Navigator (Rostok guide) -> Guide
Axel (Zaton Medic) -> Ghost
Spleen (Zaton Mechanic) -> Fang
Clear Sky guide -> Scar
You can choose which characters are available in your playthrough by taking out the gamedata folders out of the optional ones. The loading list for enabling all of them is this:
Optional - Strelok's Group
Optional - Scar
Optional - Scar + Strelok's Group Compatibility
Optional - Scar + Strelok's Group Compatibility + new Scar avatar
The new Scar avatar is just a cropped image of the official art of Scar on the Clear Sky cover art. You can decide whether you want this enabled or not.
If you want the new Scar avatar with Strelok's group, you have to load the compatibility and then the compatibility with the new avatar. This is because all that is in the compatibility with the new avatar is just the DDS file for the avatar portraits.
This is probably subject to crashes. I haven't done intensive testing yet, but I'm hoping I properly imported the model of Guide like I did with Scar that will stop any crashes related to this addon.
Neat, is it possible to have this WITHOUT replacing existing characters? Maybe a quest related to them?
A lot of things are possible with code, so I'm sure it's possible. However, I think it has something to do with messing with the level editor. I'm not too familiar with creating unique NPCs. In fact, I didn't really want them to replace existing characters but I don't have the knowledge to do that yet. I'll probably look into it soon, though.
I'm close to having these characters be separate, just need to figure out how to spawn them in when a new game is created. I'll let you know when it's done if you're still interested.
unpacked tool folder gamedata/config/scripts/marsh/smart look for
the file marsh_smart_terrain_base.ltx in the end of file in the [exclusive section] is where you want to replace/add a character to the spawn system, as for zaton gamedata/config/scripts/zaton/smart file [exclusive] section in zat_stalker_base_smart.ltx is what you're looking for...
very good idea to add those legendary characters to the game...you definitely do not need to replace any character as long as you add them to the .ltx files above they will spawn as any other character...
good job

Remade the addon. Now characters aren't replaced! Moddb.com
I'll leave this addon open in case people still want to use this old one, or if they come back to see any changes to find the new one.
