An updated version of Spram's Metroid Doom, now with less files!
In October of 2018, Spram released a mod called Metroid Doom. The original Metroid Doom wasn't perfect, so about a week ago, I had the idea to polish it up. After some work, here it is: Metroid Doom, version 2.
CHANGELOG:
- Now just one .PK3 files instead of two WADs and a DeHackEd patch
- No more DeHackEd or TEXTUREx, all based on ZDoom tech
- New TITLEPIC (with logo) and BOSSBACK (cooler)
- New post-text-screen ending
- Fixed crashes in old cast list ending
- New HUD -- pick from a reimagined version of the classic Doom status bar or take a peek inside Samus's visor
- New font for ACS pickup messages (and everywhere else DBIGFONT is used I suppose)
- Removed the two plants you had to noclip through near the Blue Brinstar / Swampy Crateria / Upper Norfair border
- Fixed texture errors
- Can be loaded as an IWAD (detected as Plutonia; turn off widescreen graphics)
- New player sprites from Metroid Dreadnought
I'd also like to iterate that this is only the beginning. Stay tuned for:
1. A new map. I'd like to set it in an alternate universe where there was only one Metroid Prime game. It'll take place on a brand-new planet and incorporate features from the Prime trilogy and more.
2. A full GUI redesign. The existing UI is good, but Spram requested that it gets a redesign in his original post. I redesigned the HUD to be more Metroid-y, but that's not the end. I'm talking a TITLEMAP, a Quake-style intro map, stories before each mission, it'll be great.
3. A Zero Suit mode. Think Nightmare! (or "That fucking Boost Ball guardian in Metroid Prime 2" mode) but better suited to the mod. You'll take more damage, energy tanks won't work as well (good luck in Tourian lmao) and missiles will probably come much later if I can find a way to balance that.
4. Move the globally applicable parts of MAP01's BEHAVIOR lump to a LOADACS file. Why didn't I do this already?
The mod still requires GZDoom 3.4.1, so don't think you ZDoomers are getting away this time; if your computer can't run GZDoom, use LZDoom instead. I've tested it with 3.87c and it works great.
If you're from Doomworld, tell Graf Zahl that Dwars called him "le no chicken".
Great job. thought this was just a weapon mod but you actually made levels in the style of metroid. i like it
