SMOD is a single player mod of Valve's first-person shooter Half-Life 2. The new content consists of many new NPCs and weapons, new gamemodes, comprehensive customization and tweaking options, new abilities for the player, and new features to the gameplay, such as level randomization and simple branching in the otherwise linear flow of the main episodes.
Yes, this is it. Recovered from one of the play-testers for the mod, this is the final version of the mod that was scheduled to be released back in 2010.
Extract the contents to your Steam/steamapps/sourcemods folder. Restart and you should have it to play in your library, provided you own Half-Life 2. The file comes with its own read-me, changelog and credits.
Due to the size of the read-me, it will not be included in the description.

-REQUIRES HALF-LIFE 2 AND COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE.
GAMEPLAY/SCRIPTS
-Added SMOD Menu System. Removed Config Map.
-Balanced out skill level curve.
-Added Optional Bandanging System. A more immersive form of Health Regeneration.
-Made a number of gameplay tweaks to HL2 NPC's (manhack, gunship, helicopter, etc) to bring them more in-line with Tactical's gameplay.
-Added "giveall" command to give every weapon in Tactical as a workaround to impulse 101.
-Reordered weapon category system. You can now carry one Pistol, one "Close-Range" weapon (SMG, PDW or Shotgun), one Assault or Battle Rifle, and one "Special Purpose" weapon (Sniper Rifle, RPG, LMG or Grenade Launcher).
-Lowered mouse sensitivity by 30% when using the ironsights.
-NPC's move 20% slower to better match the player speed in SMOD: Tactical.
-Running backwards/sideways is now slower than running forwards.
-AUX power bar is no longer infinte by default (means you can't sprint as long anymore, but also eliminates infinite bullet time/underwater breathing). Still can be activated as a cheat.

-Crowbar, Suit Pick-Up Hands and Gravity Gun now have proper CSS Hands.
-Added proper, working World Models for all weapons. Fixed a number of issues with those that were in before.
-Fixed a number of issues with dead frames in animations.
-Changed animation speeds on weapons to better balance them.
-Raised AI's ability to hear gunshot sounds from SMOD Tactical's weapons.
-The AI does not "hear" suppressed weapons as well as unsuppressed weapons now.
-Edited Shotgun reload animations to not obstruct the player's view as much.
-Precached 3D Scoped weapons, greatly reducing crashes with them.
-Rebuilt recoil system to involve the player more in a weapon's handling.
-Tweaked weapon damage.
-Added damage drop-off to bullets. Meant to simulate energy loss over distance.
-Removed shrapnel from grenades due to unreliable behavior and crash issues. Increased damage and radius to compensate.
-Reorganized weapon HUD slot positions:
Slot 1: Melee
Slot 2: Pistols
Slot 3: SMGs/Rifles
Slot 4: Shotguns/LMGs/Sniper Rifles
Slot 5: Explosives
-9mm, 5.7 and 5.56 ammo now uses the best fitting ammo types already present in the HL2 campaign for better compatibility (models reskinned/replaced where appropriate).
-Made proper entity names for the new weapons/ammo types.

-Raised Alyx's health in the prison and city maps.
-Made Alyx use her HL2 pistol again. Raised its damage to match Tactical's weapons.
-New ammo types now use box models instead of magazine models to better blend in with HL2's models.
-Improved DM_Motel noding.
-Gave player batteries in the instant-actions maps so players can use the flashlight/night vision in them.
GRAPHICS/MODELS
-Disabled buggy and ugly View Model Depth of Field effect.
-Removed out-of-place modern-day skins and models being used in the HL2 campaign.
-Fully replaced the HL2 brass models with the CSS style ones used in SMOD
-Tweaked several graphics settings by default to look better and cleaner.
-Added proper HUD icons to the new weapons.
-Fixed a number of scale and hitbox issues on CSS enemy/friendly models.
-Fixed most cases of f_combine NPC constantly reloading their weapons (wrong animation set was used).
-Removed several out-of-place, redundant or unused NPC/Player models.
-Added SMOD Outbreak zombie(2) NPC models and animations.
-Removed tracer/certain spark effects for a more gritty-looking battlefield.
-Zombies in the HL2 campaign carry headcrabs again.
SOUNDS
-Replaced most gunfire sounds. Removing low-quality live-fire recordings and stock gunfire sounds in favor of remixed, high-quality sounds.
-All gunfire sounds now have distance sounds for NPC's.
-Replaced HL2's bullet whiz sounds with supersonic bullet cracks.
-Fixed CSS/HL2DM maps not having any soundscapes loaded.
-Fixed missing lasersight/night vision sounds.
-Replaced Combine Soldier (Enemy and Friendly) voices with CSS voices. Greatly reduced probability of sounds playing.
OTHER
-Disabled intro video.

I have Counter-strike: Source and Half-Life 2 installed but the mod still has missing textures and errors everywhere, I believe the Half-Life 2 textures are there but the CSS ones just aren't in the game in the mod files, I checked! Please help me. Thank You
This mod is broken, don't download it. You're better off downloading the standalone tactical redux, or the tactical life v2.

Open up GCF Scape, go to Counter Strike Source. Then, grab the sounds models and textures folders and copy them into your "sourcemods/smodtactical" folder. Then you should be good to go!

when i want to launch the smod tactical mod in the smod standalone mod selector thing the game starts for a second and then crashes and says "Extra App ID set to 220, but no SteamAppid" did i do something wrong when adding the smod tactical folder to the mods folder in Smod standalone?
try reomove the text in the addcontents.txt
