SoGE is a Star Wars Total Conversion for SoaSE: Rebellion with it's roots in the Homeworld 2 mod Star Wars: Warlords which features the two primarily sides of the Galactic Civil War, the Clone Wars, and the Yuuzhan Vong War. The current public version works for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion 1.90 and, with or without, all DLC. Rated #6 players choice in MOTY 2014. An editors choice in MOTY 2015.

if I remember my modding days... shields and shadows require a separate mesh on the model... won't that like... triple the polies? :s
Shields do but only a rough outline of the model. Shadows do not in Sins.
Actually, if you don't mind the exe throwing you errors, you can use the ship's own mesh as your shield mesh, as I've done here. Also saves slightly on RAM, assuming the error messages don't eat RAM.

I hear you want to change the scale of the shield impacts. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I believe you can change the noiseScale value in the GetPixelColor function.
I tweaked the values given to the lerp (linear interpolation) function to work relatively well for large ships and medium sized ships.
Just tweak the 2.f in
float noiseScale = 2.f / g_ExternalHitRadius;
I think... it's been a while ^_^
