Full release of Roar of Conquest 4.0, Stand-Alone Installation.
Here is the 4.0 release for Roar of Conquest! There are a whole host of changes from version 3.1. For those of you who would like to know the changes made in this most recent version, refer to the article here: Roar of Conquest 4.0 Change Log To give credit where it is due, my mod incorporates, (and has changed), the following mods:
This mod is a Stand-Alone Release, which means that you do not need to have Stainless Steel 6.4 installed in order for this mod to work.
Please note that if you have previously installed Roar of Conquest 3.1, this file will serve as a replacement; it will not update version 3.1 of Roar of Conquest. My recommendation would be to delete version 3.1 before installing version 4.0, if for no other reason than to save disk space on your computer.
Enough tongue-wagging, onto the instructions!
1) After downloading Roar of Conquest, unzip the folder.
2) When you have unzipped the folder, find the location of your mod folder in Medieval II Total War on your computer. It should look something like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods
3) Drag the Roar of Conquest folder into the mod location in Medieval II. Once you're done, the file location should look like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\Roar of Conquest 4.0
4) When you open Roar of Conquest 4.0 in it's location, you can create a shortcut by right-clicking on the file 'Roar of Conquest 4.0' application, and then selecting the option 'create shortcut', provided you have done the following:
Included in this upload is the map reset batch file that was previously it's own download, so you will not have to do separate downloads. If your campaign does not seem to be loading properly, try running this batch file first and see if it fixes the problem.
I have also included a Large Address Aware app in this download, along with a text file, title 'LAA', instructing you how to use it. Basically, the file allows your game to use more memory than the original Medieval II engine allowed, which prevents your game from crashing because your campaign or battle exceeds the hardcoded memory limitations of the original game.
Please note: when playing as or against the new faction, you will see a purple texture instead of a portrait anytime the battle is led by a captain or admiral. Unfortunately, I could not find out how to fix the problem, but it will not cause any crashes or affect gameplay, so do not be too alarmed!
And now you are done! I hope you enjoy the game and that you will find this download easier than the previous installation.
If you are experiencing any crashes or problems in your mod, please locate the 'system.log' file located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\Roar of Conquest 4.0. Open the file using Notepad, and then copy whatever text is on the log. Paste this information in you bug report to me; this will help me out enormously in trying to help you guys fix the problem. Thanks in advance!
Edit: Please paste the log report at this Discord link: Discord.com under the text channel roc_bug_reports
It's cool that you did the Latin Empire! I know gameplay is a big consideration, but you should consider changing the borders of the Byzantines and Latin Empire to be more accurate to 1220. You might be able to use this website:
Geacron.com
I went for a balance between historical accuracy and gameplay balance. I know I could have, from a historical perspective, given the Latin Empire more territory, but I decided against it because I felt it would make the new faction a bit too strong.
Did it work for no steam users?
Yes, it works for non-steam users.
Did not work for me. Do not load campaign . When click to start campaign it come back to main menu.
Did you follow all the installation instructions? And do you have your copy of the game on your C drive?
Edit: You say that when you try to start a campaign, it goes back to the main menu. Can you show me what your 'system.log' file says?
Edit #2: do you have any other mods for Medieval II installed?
Thanks dawg
Glad you like it! :D
You dont need to default install the mod in c drive. As long as all other installation steps are in check, mainly the kingdoms.exe requirement, you can launch the roar of conquest.exe from D drive, F drive, whatever. It should not be cause of crashes, big resourceful games and mods should not be installed in c drive, that slows down the general system performance.
Thank you for the explanation; some people have been reaching out to me wondering if the mod would not work on non-C drives. In fact, the reason I stopped including ready-made shortcuts in the installation was because it would not work on non-C drives. Cheers!
What is the recommend difficulty for expert player thank you
Hard/Hard difficulty or above.
Amazing work, thank you
Hi,
Your launcher doesn't work for me. I have followed all of your installation instructions but when I run Roar of Conquest 4.0.exe I get the usual old message: "Unable to locate Kingdoms.exe. Run launcher again to get another dialog." Running it again doesn't help. Here's my situation.
My Medieval II Total War folder is F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War. This is an external SSD. I also happen to have SS 6.4 installed in a separate folder in the mods folder and it runs just fine, i.e. I have made the Kingdoms.exe copy.
I'm guessing that all your launcher does is to run Kingdoms.exe with some command parameters. But if not, is there a fix I can make to Roar of Conquest 4.0.cfg that might work?

This is just another thought. It would be far better if your launcher just put up a file selection window and let the user browser to his version of Kingdoms.exe.
FOUND A SOLUTION!
I had set my version of Kingdoms.exe to have administrative privileges. Not sure why and it works for Stainless Steel. Anyway, I took that off and your launcher now works.
And there you go. :D
Could you elaborate on what you did to the kingdoms.exe to get the launcher to run? I've ran everything as instructed but the launcher still can't find kingdoms
Did you make sure that the name of the folder is "Medieval II Total War" and not "Medieval II - Total War"?
Is this early or late campaign only?
Late campaign only.
Hey, i cant get to run the Large_Address_Aware file and when i try to start the mod it says that i dont have kingdoms.exe file in my medieval folder which is there but it dosnt sees it. help pls <3
What kind of error did you get when you tried to run the LAA file? As for not seeing kingdoms.exe, try to give kingdoms.exe administrative privileges and see if that works.
I apologize for taking so long to get back to you!
